16-Year-Old Girl Accuses Aerosmith Of Sexual Assault
Half a century after the alleged incident happened, Steven Tyler is now facing a sexual abuse lawsuit. The incident occurred in the 1970s, when he was 25 years old and the victim was a mere 16-year-old girl.
Julia Holcomb filed the sexual abuse lawsuit in Los Angeles. This was during the final days of a state law that provisionally lifts the act of limitations for claims like sexual abuse under the “look-back” window. This temporary cancellation ends this coming Saturday, December 31, 2022.
Her initial claims in Rolling Stone did not drop any names. Steven was never mentioned but was referred to as “Defendant Joe.” However, some quotes taken directly from Steven’s memoir in 2011 described a similar (or the same) relationship.
And it is not the first time Julia has opened up about her supposed relationship with Steven.
In the lawsuit, Julie accused the Aerosmith music legend of intentional infliction of emotional distress and sexual assault. The legal document stated that Steven plied her with drugs after he gained guardianship of Julia, which her mother provided. Additionally, Julia noted that Steven pressured her into having an abortion.
Recall that in Steven’s memoir, he fondly recalled his sexual relationship with a teenage girl in the 1970s. Steven shared that this relationship lasted about three years, although he did not name Julia in his chronicle.
Steven, in his book, narrated, “She was sixteen, she knew how to nasty, and there wasn’t a hair on it.”
The singer also revealed in his autobiography that he was on the verge of marrying a teenager and that, because the girl’s parents adored him, they agreed to give him custody of her. This was so Steven wouldn’t get arrested if he decided to take the girl out of state.
The Aerosmith frontman stated that he was being his bad self, that his girlfriend was barely old enough to drive a car and sexy, and that he fell madly in love with her.
Steven described her as a “…cute skinny little tomboy dressed up as Little Bo Peep. She was my heart’s desire, my partner in crimes of passion.”
Julia’s lawsuit claimed that she met the singer in 1973, just after turning sixteen. This was when she attended the band’s concert in Portland, Oregon. After the show, she returned to Steven’s room in one of the hotels.
Steven was aware of her age then because they discussed it, and after having the conversation about her age, Steven engaged in unlawful sexual conduct with the 16-year-old. This was the start of a relationship, and Julia mentioned that she was powerless to say no and resist the man’s fame, financial capacity, and power.
Echoing Steven’s memoir, Julia’s mother granted the guardianship of her daughter to Steven in 1974, so they could travel without any questions. The commitment was that Steven would take care of Julia and be responsible for her education and healthcare. Instead, Julia went on traveling with the singer alongside receiving continuous assault and being exposed to alcohol and different substances.
The following year, Julia became pregnant, but Steven made her get an abortion after an apartment fire happened. Steven did mention a fire in his biography but not an abortion. However, the Aerosmith autobiography that was released in 1997 did make references to an ongoing relationship with a teenage girl, an apartment fire, and an abortion.
As of today, Steven’s camp or representative has not responded to requests for an official statement regarding the lawsuit.
