Black-ish’s Marsai Martin Reveals She Recently Underwent Surgery To Remove Painful Ovarian Cyst
Marsai Martin is using her recent health experience to encourage others to pay attention to their bodies. The young actress recently shared on social media that she had surgery to remove an ovarian cyst not long ago. She revealed this on Saturday in a tell-all with her roughly 4.3 million Instagram followers.
The Black-ish breakout star took to her Instagram Stories with a black-and-white clip of her inside a hospital. She added a caption that read, “If you missed my live, long story short, I had surgery for my large ovarian cyst that gave me constant pain for 4+ years.”
Apparently, she previously held a live session where she narrated the story to fans who joined. But for the sake of those who missed attendance, she shared that she does not have any memory of the surgery itself due to the anesthesia she took.
The Texas native added that through the experience, she had her family and educators’ support. That, she said, made the process easier.
Marsai explained that she shared her surgery story to spread awareness and to encourage other young women who might be going through the same issue or who might be experiencing difficult menstrual cycles.
“You are never alone,” she encouraged as she advised attentiveness. “Listen to your body. It will always show you signs,” she added, urging women like her to be an advocate for their health.
Ovarian cysts are common and are usually painless, according to Mayo Clinic. They are also usually harmless. However, they come with the risk of twisting or bursting open. If this happens, the body in question can experience symptoms like bloating, pressure or heaviness in the abdomen, and pelvic pain.
The Little actress, who is not so little anymore, concluded her Story with the common but valuable saying, “Health is wealth.”
In response to the reaction the post received from fans, Marsai shared a follow-up Instagram Story on Sunday with an update. Posting a photo of herself as she got her makeup done, the young producer thanked her fans for “all the love.” She further explained that she underwent the procedure “10 days ago,” assuring followers that she is now feeling fine.
“I also appreciate the stories from folks that have been through the same thing! But I’m back and I’m betta,” she wrote.
To prove that she is truly back on the move, the 18-year-old shared subsequent clips of a visit to SoFi stadium in Inglewood, California, where she went to enjoy an evening game of football.
