Cardi B Sued By Concertgoer Over Alleged Microphone Attack

What started as a splashy summer concert in Las Vegas has turned into a courtroom drama and Cardi B is at the center of it. An Ohio woman, identified only as Jane Doe, has filed a lawsuit claiming the Grammy-winning rapper hit her “forcefully” with a microphone during a performance at Drai’s Beachclub on July 29, 2023. The filing, made in Clark County, Nevada, says the alleged attack left her with both physical injuries and emotional scars.
Jane says she was on her first-ever solo trip to Vegas when she attended Cardi’s show. According to her, the heat was intense and Cardi, 32, asked the crowd to cool her off. Video from that night (which quickly went viral) shows Cardi shouting to fans: “Splash me down… that s— feel good!”
Fans took her seriously. Cardi herself, according to the lawsuit, poured water over her body and playfully slapped her backside as drinks flew through the air. Jane says that, trying to join the fun like everyone else, she tossed a small splash of her drink in Cardi’s direction. That’s when everything changed.
In what Doe describes as an “angry” and “retaliatory” response, she claims Cardi suddenly hurled her microphone directly at her. It hit her, she says, and left her hurt, stunned, and humiliated.
The lawsuit doesn’t stop with Cardi. Jane Doe is also suing Drai’s Management Group for negligence, claiming the nightclub knew Cardi could be unpredictable on stage. Her filing mentions a separate incident the night before, where Cardi allegedly tossed a mic at a DJ during a performance (footage of which later surfaced on TikTok).
Jane Doe says Cardi’s mic-throwing wasn’t just dangerous but also damaging. “What has been written off as a joke by many people is actually a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life,” she said in a statement to PEOPLE. “I am seeking justice… no celebrity is above the law.”
As if the incident itself wasn’t enough, the microphone that allegedly hit her was later auctioned off for nearly $99,000, a detail Jane Doe says only added to her distress.
The lawsuit accuses Cardi of assault, battery, and negligence, as Jane Doe says she’s suffered “severe emotional distress, humiliation, and harassment,” and wants both compensatory and punitive damages.
Cardi’s legal team, however, isn’t buying it. Her attorney, Drew Findling, called the lawsuit “a transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown,” pointing out that a criminal investigation into the event was closed due to “insufficient evidence.”
Still, Jane Doe says the emotional toll remains. She claims she’s been harassed by both the media and strangers online and that what many saw as a “viral moment” was, for her, a life-altering experience.
