Celebrity Parents Who All Skip On the Christmas Gifts To Keep Their Children Grounded
Most parents rush to get their Christmas shopping done on December 24th and spend the entire day wrapping them up and preparing for the festivities during the evening. The rush and pressure are slightly fun but very stressful for many.
Surprisingly, many celebrity moms skip the shopping spree while teaching their kids a life-changing and more valuable holiday lesson.
Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher, Drew Barrymore, and Kim Kardashian are just a few celebrity parents who have skipped purchasing lavish gifts for their children during Christmas and have decided to focus on the more important things in life instead.
In 2017, Kim shared that she and her then-husband, Kanye West, didn’t do gifts anymore, and as a couple, they’d had several conversations about ensuring their children don’t get too much so they learn to be grounded and become well-rounded, too.
The same year, Mila shared in one of her interviews that she and Ashton had put in place a no-gift policy for their children. The fact was that they couldn’t keep up with the generous gifts that family members generously gave their children.
Mila and Ashton made this decision because when their kids were younger, they observed that gifts didn’t matter anymore—citing an example of their 2-year-old child Wyatt, who received a little too much last year. Wyatt didn’t receive anything from her parents but got plenty of gifts from her grandparents. The child did not appreciate the present or the thought behind it. She simply expected to receive something.
Additionally, the gifts were wasted, which was also a contributing element for the husband and wife to draw the line when it came to their parents giving gifts to their grandchildren. They also talked to their parents, advising that if they want to give the children a present, to pick one gift and donate the rest to the Children’s Hospital or elsewhere where the gift would be used and appreciated.
Drew Barrymore is another Hollywood celebrity who also stepped back from gift-giving. She recently adopted a more scaled-back and minimal gift-giving during the holidays.
Earlier this month, in an interview with ET, Drew shared that she hopes to give her two daughters, 10-year-old Olive and 8-year-old Frankie, life-enriching experiences instead of physical gifts.
Her daughters are not too keen about not receiving presents, but she tells them that the memories, experiences, photos, and new places are gifts worth remembering, and that’s what she wants to give them.
The mother of two also explained that her girls get plenty of gifts throughout the year, to clarify the notion that her children don’t receive any gifts at all. Drew is just keener on gifting themblife memories, not just a doll house, for example, that they’d eventually get bored with.
The Hills actress Kirstin Cavallari is another parent who has a different approach when it comes to gift-giving. When her children misbehave in the weeks leading to the holidays, they can expect coal and not a pleasant surprise in their stockings. She believes this agreement keeps her kids in line and on their best behavior.
