CNN’s Jim Sciutto Is Now Off-air After A Serious Fall In Amsterdam
Jim Sciutto is a mainstay on CNN, but his network superiors have ordered him to be off the air so he can address a personal issue. This personal situation is said to have stemmed from a “serious fall” while he was in Amsterdam earlier this year.
And true to the order of the big bosses, Jim, who usually presents the Newsroom along with Poppy Harlow, was not present last Tuesday and Wednesday with his previous appearance being last Monday.
The Daily Beast’s Confider reported this week that CNN subjected Jim to an internal investigation earlier this year. The website further shared that the “serious fall” the TV presenter was in Amsterdam triggered the investigation.
As of now, a media source has left the status of Jim as one on personal leave. His mother network, CNN, has not released further statements about Jim’s current footing on the network.
It can be recalled that Jim worked for the Obama administration as chief of staff and then as a senior advisor to Gary Locke, US Ambassador to China. He was staying in the Dutch capital with an unidentified producer as he embarked to go home from Ukraine after a reporting stint when the incident occurred.
The Daily Beast‘s Confider noted that CNN was keen on flying their people directly out of Ukraine through Poland, so why Jim had a stopover in the Netherlands was a huge question. It was reported that Jim has since recovered from what happened—but what exactly happened remains a mystery.
Aside from being a mainstay anchor with Poppy for CNN Newsroom on weekdays, Jim writes most articles for the channel’s website. He also works on another show, this time weighing the national security concerns that the country is facing. This role had him going on three trips to war-savaged Ukraine last February, March, and April 2022.
Last October 3rd, Jim published an article on CNN.com titled, “US considering responses to possible Russian escalation in Ukraine.” Part of the published task delved into the possible use of tactical nuclear weapons.
Jim’s absence from CNN is just the latest blow to the network’s changes in their scheduled programming. Also, the new network CEO, Chris Licht, shared his goal of gearing the network away from left-leaning commentary.
Chris, who replaced Jeff Zucker earlier in February, also mentioned other network changes, including legal analyst Laura Coates and anchor Alisyn Camerota sharing the 10 PM to 12 AM time slot. Chris envisions that by adding more experience, insight, and voices through Alisyn and Laura, CNN can expand and advance its coverage and create something compelling and complimentary in prime time.
With all these changes happening in the network, an air of uncertainty lingers. So far, Jim has not made any official statements about what’s happening and appears to be unaffected by the recent shake-ups at CNN.
