Gigi Hadid And Her Pal Arrested At The Cayman Islands Airport And Face Drug Charges
On a trip that started terribly, supermodel Gigi Hadid was reportedly arrested and is being charged with possession of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia after flying to the Cayman Islands from the US last week.
The 28-year-old Gigi was traveling with her friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy, and they arrived via jet plane on July 10 at Owens Roberts International Airport. As they went through customs, the Customs & Border Control agents, after scanning her luggage, found small amounts of ganja and a couple of utensils used for ganja consumption.
The illegal drugs were identified as being solely for personal use. Still, Gigi and Leah were arrested on “suspicion of importation of ganja and importation of utensils used for the consumption of ganja.”
The two ladies were retained at the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center but were eventually released on bail. According to Cayman Marl Road, a local media outlet, they are currently pending prosecution.
On July 12, Gigi and Leah pleaded guilty during their Summary Court appearance and were fined $1,000. Both avoided convictions on their records.
Note that in the Cayman Islands, Cannabis is still considered illegal. Still, the limited and controlled use of cannabis oil has been permitted since 2016 but only for medical purposes.
The model’s representative confirmed that Gigi was traveling with marijuana, but the drugs were legally purchased in New York City with a medical license. Her spokesperson re-iterated the marijuana guidelines of Grand Cayman and cited that the model’s records remain clear, concluding that Gigi enjoyed the rest of her time on the island despite the setback.
And Gigi’s uploaded photos can attest that the arrest was just a minor drawback—the model continued with her holiday, sharing her bikini photos with her many followers and having a grand time with her friends.
Gigi’s holiday vacation comes after her ex, Zayn Malik, talked for the first time about the altercation between him and Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid. Recall that in September 2021, the former One Direction star reportedly pushed Yolanda into a dresser and called her names.
This incident caused him to face four counts of harassment, to which he pleaded no contest. The court ordered the singer to complete 360 days of probation and an anger management class.
During Zayn’s interview with Call Her Daddy, the father of one believed that he handled the situation the best possible way he could back then, and all that mattered to him was that the people involved knew the truth and what happened.
He also mentioned, “I didn’t want to bring attention, and I didn’t want to get a negative back and forth with her [or] any sort of narrative for my daughter to read eventually.”
Right now, Zayn and Gigi are co-parenting their daughter Khai and have made it their goal to always put her first. Zayn, who left One Direction in 2015 and is now living on a farm in Pennsylvania, is keen on giving his daughter a private life, and so far, he and Gigi have successfully kept the child from the spotlight.
Now and then, they share photos of their child, but on their terms and without sharing her face. The two are making their setup work and only want the best for their child.
