James Corden Banned From Restaurant in NYC
If you have ever watched James Corden’s show, you likely know him for his smiling face and contagious laughter. Well, at a well-esteemed restaurant in New York, Balthazar, he’s known for quite the opposite.
The owner of the restaurant, Keith McNally took to Instagram to express his frustrations with the comedian. McNally wrote about two separate experiences he’s had with Corden at his restaurant, both of which were unpleasant, to say the least.
In one situation, McNally alleges that Corden saw a hair in his food and rudely demanded for the cost to be covered. According to McNally, James Corden said, “Get us another round of drinks this second. Also take care of all of our drinks so far. That way I won’t write any nasty reviews on Yelp or anything like that.”
In another instance, James was allegedly much meaner. His wife ordered an omelet of just egg yolk, and found a bit of egg white in the omelet. The staff remade it, but brought out a salad and fries, which is what Corden’s wife had asked for. After this, Corden allegedly verbally berated the waiter. McNally says that in the end, James was satisfied, but has acted this way at multiple other restaurants.
In his Instagram posts, McNally calls James Corden a “tiny cretin, and the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago.” While this may be one of the first times someone with considerable social status has spoken up about Corden’s behavior, many have believed him to be a less-than-kind person for a while.
He posted an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit a few years back, with the majority of replies talking about James’ rudeness. The top reply recalls witnessing James at dinner with Harry Styles, calling James “massively entitled,” but noting that Harry was “so cool.” Another reply asks if it’s true that he completely ignored his wife and crying baby on a flight.
One story even accuses Corden of wanting lower wages for his writers. Witnesses have also attested that he throws temper tantrums on set. In one instance, he degraded K-pop band BTS, who have a massive and intense fan base, so they didn’t let the situation rest.
When Ellen Degeneres, another famous talk show host, was being criticized in 2020 for mistreating her staff, amongst other things, there were some rumors that Corden would replace her afternoon talk show. That didn’t happen, obviously, and he’s also been called worse than Ellen.
