Jessa Duggar Shares She Suffered a Miscarriage
Jessa Duggar, the 19 Kids and Counting alum, revealed that she suffered a miscarriage over the holidays.
Jessa discusses her miscarriage, which occurred 7 weeks ago, in a 19-minute heartbreaking YouTube video. The video was posted late this Friday and titled “Heartbreak Over the Holidays”.
In the video, the 30-year-old reality star talks in detail about her loss and how it all started. The video starts with footage of Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, telling their kids that they were expecting baby number 5.
After a few minutes, the video fast-forwards to when Jessa was 11 weeks pregnant. She talks about things going well but says that she feels “sick” and has observed some spotting. She is concerned and schedules an ultrasound for the very next day.
She further talks about how she could sense concern in the voice of the technician as she looked at the baby. When the technician informed her that the sac looked good, but the baby did not, Jessa recalled that she immediately started crying and that nothing could have prepared her for the weight of those words.
The technician left the room, and the couple was left alone, not knowing what to do next. Jessa says, ‘I feel like in some ways miscarriages can be so jarring because you don’t have clear signs of something going wrong, I had minimal spotting for 24 hours, and that was it.’
Due to the possibility of risks, Duggar checked into a hospital and underwent a D&C procedure to remove the fetus.
In the video, she talks about the doubts she was having as she was being wheeled in for the operation. She also talks about how, even after being prepared for everything, she wanted to ask for one more ultrasound just to be sure.
Getting very emotional, Jessa recalls the moments, saying she was able to thank God for giving them this life even if they wouldn’t be able to hold the baby in their arms.
Also, she says that the most devastating part is waking up after the procedure with a hollow feeling, knowing that the life inside you is no longer there. She was saddened that she did not get to see her baby or say goodbye.
“Those 10 to 15 minutes before I was taken back to the room where Ben and my mom were waiting were probably some of the hardest in my life, just laying there feeling so alone,” she explains, her voice breaking.
She and Ben are also parents to their 7-year-old son Spurgeon, 6-year-old son Henry, 3-year-old daughter Ivy, and 19-month-old daughter Fern.
Jenna discusses her belief that she will one day meet her child as she wraps up her video. She goes on to say how heaven became sweeter after she lost someone. She also discussed it with her children, who are eager to meet the infant in heaven when the time comes.
Lastly, Jessa shared her plans to take a social media hiatus and focus on herself and her health.
However, this is not the first time that the couple has had to go through such a devastating loss. They had previously lost a baby before their fourth daughter, Fern.
