Julian Sands, A Room With A View Actor, Is Still Missing In Deadly Californian Mountain Range
British actor Julian Sands, best known for his performance in A Room With A View, is still missing. It has been nearly one week now, and the circumstances of his whereabouts are nothing short of worrisome.
He was last seen in a hazardous Californian mountain range where, tragically, two hikers had recently died.
The 65-year-old Julian was reported missing by his family last Friday at around 7.30 p.m. after he disappeared while trekking the Mount Baldy area in the San Gabriel Mountains in California.
Due to the storm that swept in, search officers had to abandon their ground search and rescue operation. Since then, sending people back to continue the search has been deemed dangerous.
In continued efforts, though, the experts instead transitioned to using drones and helicopters to continue the search for the actor. This mountainous area is a mere 40 miles from the center of Los Angeles, home of Julian since 2020.
Once the weather permits, and it is safe for teams to be dispatched to the ground, the Search and Rescue will continue an extensive search. Only now, there’s news if Julian was hiking alone or with a group.
A car identified to belong to the Killing Fields star was found near Mount Baldy five days ago. This area is home to one of the most treacherous climbs in the US.
Julian, a father of three, has always been a keen outdoorsman. He has climbed several mountains around the world. The Arachnophobia actor also often shared his love for the outdoors with his friends and during interviews. During the COVID lockdown, while being interviewed by Thrive Global about his many expeditions, Julian mentioned that these adventures were all about humility, sacrifice, and supplication.
He explained during the interview, “It’s not so much a celebration of oneself but the eradication of one’s self-consciousness. And so on these walks you lose yourself, you become a vessel of energy in harmony hopefully with your environment.”
He provided an example, “I mean, two days ago, I was just an old guy begging people for water at a trailhead in the Santa Monica Mountains. Who cares if you’re a film person? I was just someone very grateful for the kindness of strangers.”
Julian has also cheated death plenty of times during his climbing escapades. He revealed that he and three others encountered a vicious storm at over 20,000 feet in the early 1990s. It was a lucky escape, as several others had lost their lives.
Family and friends of Julian have expressed their worry and anxiousness about Julian’s status.
Cassian Elwes, film producer, and Julian’s friend, tweeted, “I’ve known since Friday that my friend Julian Sands has been missing on Mt Baldy. I’m devastated. He was a very close family friend who was an adventurer in everything he did. I’ve said many prayers.”
Brian Lynch, the screenwriter of well-loved movies Minions and Secret Life of Pets, added, “Oh no! I love Julian Sands! I hope he is found ASAP.”
