Kylie Jenner Accused of Attempting To Distract The Public From Balenciaga Fashion Scandal Involving Sister Kim
Kylie Jenner has kicked back at some TikTok users who claimed her decision to share her son’s photos was a ploy to detract attention from the Balenciaga fashion scandal in which her sister Kim Kardashian is involved.
The 25-year-old shared shots of her 9-month-old son on Monday. Not known to share pictures of the boy whose name has not even been revealed, fans thought it suspicious that the picture came a day after Kim was bashed for refusing to outrightly cut ties with Balenciaga amid multiple child imagery scandals the brand is enveloped in.
“Kris Jenner telling her kids to release the good photos after the Balenciaga scandal,” a TikTok user had alleged. Kylie had responded to the accusation with a question, “Uh whyyyyyy would I post my child to cover up for Balenciaga?” before condemning the public for always having an opinion on every action. “This is why I don’t do this, always something to say,” she said.
Not one to back down, the TikTok user retorted that while she understands that having people pry into her life can be frustrating, “raw honesty” is all that is required from the Kardashian-Jenner family. “Most of us just want more raw honesty from your family tho instead of silence like with Astroworld,” she stated.
The scandal was in response to Balenciaga’s 2022 Holiday ad campaign. The campaign featured children posing with its plush toy bag, which looked like teddy bears. The children were dressed in what appeared to be BDSM gear and were seemingly surrounded by empty wine and champagne glasses. This led to many social media users asking why children were used in the shoot.
Kim, known to be the face of the brand as she is Balenciaga’s biggest ambassador, shared a statement to condemn the brand’s actions. However, while many expected her to completely distance herself from the brand with whom she has been in business for years, her statement only pointed to a decision to “re-evaluate” her relationship with the fashion house.
A number of social media users accused the mom of four of insincerity as they pointed out that her statement took days to prepare. To them, she must have been waiting for things to blow over. However, the 42-year-old explained that her hesitation in speaking on the matter was not out of lack of care but because she “wanted an opportunity to speak to their team” to have a better insight into how they could have let that happen.
While fans are not pacified, Kim is satisfied with the company’s removal of the campaigns and the apology issued. She, however, attempted to make it clear that “any attempts to normalize child abuse of any kind should have no place in our society – period.”
