LA Restricts Water Flow to Celebrities
Los Angeles, California has been suffering an intense drought which caused restrictions to be placed on household water use. Unsurprisingly, the richest and most famous Los Angeles residents didn’t take this warning seriously.
First, Kourtney Kardashian received backlash for this as she has a website where she promotes environmentally friendly activities. So, to hear that she was using over 245% of the water that she was supposed to was ironic, to say the least.
She and her family have also recently been slammed for their excessive and often unnecessary use of private jets, which emit billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the air. The celebrity’s entire career is based on her image, and it seems that acting like she cared about the environment was just to improve her image. Well, it looks like she’s going to be forced to practice what she preaches on her environmental and wellness blog.
Since many celebrities think the rules don’t apply to them, LA has placed “flow restrictors” on the pipes of their homes. The restrictors are tiny devices that can be installed within minutes and will help hold celebrities to the same standards that the more common folk have been obliging to. If restrictors are tampered with, it is punishable by fine.
In addition to Kardashian, restrictors have been placed on Kevin Hart’s and Scott Disick’s homes. They aren’t the only ones, though. Restrictors may soon also be placed on Kim Kardashian’s, Sylvester Stallone, and Madonna’s pipes as well. Stallone’s water usage has gone over its budget by over one million liters, which he attributes to a tiny forest he has on his property.
Former NBA player Dwayne Wade is another culprit. His water usage in June alone went over budget by 1,400 percent. The month before, in May, the number was even bigger. He went over budget by 489,000 gallons, which he blamed on having a dysfunctional pool system.
Las Virgenes spokesperson, Mike Mcnutt, made a statement saying, “I am asking any celebrity, all of them, to step up and talk about water conservation, to talk about climate change… what I want them to do is to work with me, to work with my district, and put out public service announcements and educate the community.” LA county has also said, “no matter how rich you are, we’ll treat you the same,” as they should.
Because this isn’t about money, it’s about the well-being of our planet and everyone who lives here. Climate change is a serious issue, and the first people it will affect are the underprivileged and unhoused. The last people climate change will affect personally are the rich and famous, as they have endless resources to get what they need to support their luxury.
The flow restrictors on the pipes of celebrity homes will help hold celebrities accountable and make them aware of how wasteful their lavish lives can be, and how much they’re taking away from people who are less fortunate than them.
