Model Abby Choi Dead At 28
Model and Instagram influencer Abby Choi has died at the age of 28, and authorities are reporting the cause of death to be a gruesome murder. The model was reported missing on February 21, and the shocking news of her murder came just days later, on February 24.
The Hong Kong police filed murder charges against the ex-husband Alex Kwong (28), his brother Anthony Kwong (31), and his father Kwong Kau (65) after disembodied body parts of the model were found in a refrigerator.
Alex’s mother Jenny Li (63) is facing charges of “one count of perverting the course of justice” and another of “assisting an offender”.
A skull that is believed to belong to the model was found in a pot in a rented home in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district. Alex and his three family members associated with the murder have been put in custody without bail.
The news of their arrest was confirmed by Superintendent Alan Chung, who also said that Choi had financial disputes that involved tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars with her ex-husband and his family.
The police confirmed that human ribs, hair, and several bones were also discovered. The police also found some of Choi’s belongings, including her ID and credit card. Tools for dismembering human bodies like an electric saw, a meat slicer, and clothing like long raincoats, gloves, and masks were also found in the flat.
Talking about how the influencer might have met her tragic demise, Chung said that there is a hole on the right side of the skull at the back. He continued, saying how the pathologists believe it to be the spot where the victim had her fatal attack.
Chung continues, adding that Choi is suspected to have been attacked in a car, rendering her unconscious, and that she was later murdered at the house. Police have not been able to pinpoint the exact time of the murder and are still searching for the missing hands and torso. However, they expect that the body parts have already been disposed of.
A fifth suspect, a 47-year-old woman, was also arrested. The woman is believed to be having an affair with the ex-husband’s father and allegedly assisted the suspects in the crime. The woman rented the flat along with the father and also found another place to hide Choi’s ex-husband.
Before her tragic death, Choi was an influencer with more than 100,000 followers on Instagram. She documented her glamorous life of fashion shows and photo shoots. Her most recent post, on February 19, featured a photoshoot for the fashion magazine L’Officiel Monaco.
In her post, she wrote, “From Hong Kong to the cover of L’Officiel Monaco, my journey as a style icon continues.” She expressed her gratitude by saying, “Grateful for this recognition and the continued support along the way.”
Abby was also featured in Vogue China. In her November 22 post, she wrote, “Like what you like, Love what you love.”
Abby has two children—a son, 10, and a girl, 8—with her ex-husband. She also has two children—a daughter, 6, and a son, 3—with her current husband, Chris Tam.
Tam was quoted as saying that he was very thankful to have had Choi in his life and that she was very supportive.
He said, “When Abby was alive, she was a very kind person and always wanted to help people. I feel anyone who had a chance to be her family or her friend are blessed.”
