Nick Carter Steps Out With The Backstreet Boys Amid Accusations Of Raping Disabled Woman In 2001
Backstreet Boy’s Nick Carter was seen chatting with fans in New York City on the day he was accused of raping a disabled woman on a tour bus in 2001.
The boy band member was with the rest of his group as they jointly chatted with fans outside the Empire State Building. Despite the accusation Nick is wrapped in, he and his friends seemed spirited as they smiled and posed for photographs.
The woman who claimed Carter raped her, Shannon ‘Shay’ Ruth, announced her lawsuit against Nick as she told her story on Thursday. The 39-year-old, who has autism and cerebral palsy, explained that the 42-year-old star invited her on his tour bus when she was 17 after the band’s concert in Tacoma, Washington, in February 2001.
According to Ruth, Carter gave her a drink he purported as cranberry. He called it “VIP juice,” she said. After downing the drink, which she said “tasted off,” Nick allegedly took her to the bus bathroom, where she said he pulled down his trousers in front of her and forced her to perform oral sex on him. She detailed that she was crying throughout the alleged forced oral sex, but the singer kept instructing her to continue. He then allegedly raped her.
Ruth said that Carter tried to silence her when she told him she would tell people about what he had done. He allegedly threatened to turn people against her, telling her that no one would believe her. She also said the alleged incident was followed by pain, confusion, shame, and self-harm. “The last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame and self-harm that are a direct result of Nick Carter raping me,” she stated in front of the cameras.
She added that what Nick allegedly did to her has had a more lasting impact on her than any other thing she has been faced with.
According to Ruth, who revealed she was a virgin before the alleged incident, the impact of what Nick did to her was beyond physical and emotional. She claimed she contracted Human papillomavirus infection from the assault.
Ruuth is now seeking damages and has filed a lawsuit against the singer. Her lawyer said that she is “determined to bring Carter to justice” as he noted that the bandmate has a long history of abusing women.
Carter has denied the allegations through his attorney Michael Holtz who told Mail Online that the allegations are “entirely untrue” and that “Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick” for several years.
A source close to him also told TMZ that the accusations are “categorically false.” “Nick is focusing on his family and mourning the death of his brother,” the source stated.
In light of the allegations, the Backstreet Boys Christmas special the boy band filmed this month in Los Angeles has been canceled. The special was originally set to air on December 14 with planned appearances from celebrities like Meghan Trainor, Rob Riggle, Nikki Glaser, and Ron Funches.
