Will Smith Gets Support from Ex-Wife About That Oscar Slap
Although Will Smith has already issued an apology for slapping Chris Rock in the face during the 2022 Academy Awards, everyone still has something to say about the incident. And this includes Will Smith’s ex-wife, Sheree Zampino.
Sheree and Will were married for three years, from 1992 to 1995, and have a 29-year-old son named Trey Smith. Sheree rarely makes comments, but she stands in support of whatever Will Smith is going through right now, including his current journey of redemption.
The 53-year-old Best Actor Academy Award winner came under fire after slapping Chris Rock when the latter made a joke about Jada’s hairstyle.
Will recently shared a new video where he apologized to Chris Rock for his actions. He also personally reached out to Chris Rock to amend his behavior. In the video, Will appeared emotional as he addressed Chris Rock directly with the words, “Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
He added, “There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave at that moment. There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”
Will also apologized to his entire family, including his wife, for putting their family in a bad light.
Sheree asked everyone to allow Will to be human, hoping they would give him a second chance. She mentioned that she is on good terms with her ex-husband and that he cannot fully heal without forgiveness. Sheree requested the fans of the Men In Black actor to forgive him for his mistake.
She also reminded the public that, except for the infamous slapping incident, Smith has a plausible track record and one that people should consider. Being in the business since he was 16 years old, Will Smith had been gracious, kind, and had a genuine connection with his fans, so hopefully, he’d be given a break from this incident.
Sheree reiterated that Will Smith had given everyone multiple years of laughter.
It is known that Sheree has maintained a good relationship with Jada, Will’s wife, since 1997. After Sheree shared some of her products with her, it was Jada who encouraged and pushed her to start a business.
As of date, Will Smith appears to be bouncing back pretty well. He is in talks with Netflix. Negotiations are underway with the streaming service about a tell-all biopic about his life.
It seems that the talks started before the ugly altercation with the comedian, but Will was left out in the cold not just by Netflix but also by Apple TV+ in the wake of the incident. It now appears that the slap and the fallout with his friend can potentially be good content and pivotal to the storyline of this biography.
