A Twilight TV Series Is Reportedly In The Works
Here is some good news for Twilight fans:
After over a decade since the last film adaptation of the book series The Twilight Saga, written by Stephenie Meyers, was released, a television adaptation of the book series is reportedly in the works.
The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which stated that the series version of the best-selling book series was in the early stages of development via Lionsgate Television.
Sinead Daly is supposedly working with Lionsgate TV on writing the script for the series. Whether the series will be an adaptation of Meyer’s book or have a different story or timeline is still to be determined.
Not many details about the series have been outed yet, and as the project is still in its infancy, it does not have a network or platform, as stated by the sources. This means that the exact timeline for when the series will be available cannot be determined.
Some other details that were gathered are:
- The author of the books, Stepehenie Meyer, will also be involved.
- Wyck Godfrey, one of the producers of the film adaptation, will be co-producing the series with Erik Feig, who bought the rights to the book series from Summit Entertainment.
However, representatives from Lionsgate TV declined to comment.
The first movie was released 15 years ago, in 2008. The movie starred Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner in the lead roles. The four sequels that followed were New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn: Part 1 (2011), and Breaking Dawn: Part 2 (2012).
The five movies grossed around $3.4 billion at the box office worldwide during this period so a reboot is no surprise.
Also, five years after the last movie was released, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, in reference to Twilight and The Hunger Games adaptations, told Wall Street, “There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories.”
Twilight fans are torn over the news. Many fans took to Twitter to raise their concerns. One fan wrote, “Twilight being possibly adapted into a TV series is worse than the Harry Potter TV series for me personally — it was camp and fun and Rob and Kristen were IT. why would we do a re-do, people?!”
Fans are also worried about the casting and whether the series will be able to live up to the hype of the movies.
Also, fans are speculating if the series will have any of the original cast. However, since the story is about non-aging vampires who have been frozen to their teenage years, this may be a bit difficult.
Also, Twilight is not the only movie series that will be adapted into a television series. Just a few days earlier, HBO Max confirmed that the Harry Potter television adaptation was in early development.
And while some fans are thrilled by the idea, others feel there is a desperate need for new ideas.
So, if a reboot is going to be made, which team are you going to be on, Team Edward or Team Jacob?
