Adele Battles Painful Ear Infection, Pushes Through Las Vegas Residency
Adele, 36, has opened up about a recent health scare that left her battling an intense ear infection. During her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on October 25, the singer revealed to the audience that she has been experiencing temporary hearing loss.
“I actually have an ear infection, which is pretty grim,” Adele shared during the concert. “I’ve never had an ear infection before. It’s the most painful thing that has ever, ever happened to me in my life — it was worse than childbirth.”
The singer explained that the infection was caused by a rare type of water bacteria, and it took some time for doctors to get her treatment right. According to her, she was on the wrong antibiotics for some days.
But now, thankfully, the medication is working, and she is “no longer in pain.”
Though she’s still dealing with lingering symptoms, Adele made it clear that nothing would stop her from performing for her fans. For her, there was “no way I was missing the f—— show” despite feeling “a bit deaf.”
Medical experts, like those from the Mayo Clinic, note that hearing loss is a common side effect of ear infections, but it usually improves once the infection is treated. However, in more severe cases, permanent hearing damage can occur if the eardrum or other ear structures are affected.
This health challenge comes as Adele’s Weekends with Adele residency, which began in November 2022, continues to attract thousands of fans. The show was initially set for March, but the dates were postponed after Adele had to take time off to rest her voice. “I was sick at the end of the last leg, and all the way through my break. I hadn’t quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before shows resumed, and now I am sick again and unfortunately it’s all taken a toll on my voice,” he stated.
Adele also shared in September, during her residency in Munich, that she will be stepping back from performing for an extended period once her Las Vegas shows end on November 23. “I have 10 more shows to do, but after that, I won’t see you for an incredibly long time,” she told fans, adding that she would “hold them dear in her heart.”
