Adele Can’t Stop Raving About Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”
Adele’s love for Sabrina Carpenter’s music took center stage during her Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. In a video captured by fans on Saturday, May 18, Adele paused her performance to share her admiration for one of Sabrina’s new songs and her recent experience with vocal rest.
The 36-year-old British singer reflected on her return to the stage after a break, revealing how adjusting to the Las Vegas time zone played tricks on her body.
“I nearly pissed myself because my whole body clock was out of sync,” Adele confessed, prompting laughter from the audience.
She explained, “So being on stage at 11:30, I was desperate for a pee. But I’m always, you know, [going] back to the hotel, in the hotel, whatever, by, sort of like, 11:10 at the latest. And then I have to warm my voice down, then I have a steam shower and things like that.”
Adele then shared a humorous moment from the previous night. “As I got into bed last night — ’cause that’s a very late night for me, normally I’m in bed by 9 p.m. — I found myself singing, ‘I’m working late, ’cause I’m a singer,'” she said, referencing Sabrina’s chart-topping song Espresso.
She sang the lyrics, “I can’t relate to desperation,” and declared, “That song is my jam!”
Adele had high praise for Espresso, which Sabrina performed on Saturday Night Live the same night Adele discussed it onstage. The singer joked that the song was released during her vocal rest, which meant she couldn’t sing along to it on the radio. “It came out and I couldn’t talk! It came out when I couldn’t talk or sing, so since my voice has come back, all last night and this morning that’s what I’ve been singing,” she shared.
Before resuming her performance, Adele quipped that she would be taking a break the next day. “From tomorrow, it will be like, ‘I’m sleeping late ’cause I’m a singer,’ because that’s what I’m gonna do tomorrow,” she said, playing off Sabrina’s lyrics.
Sabrina reacted to Adele’s praise with humor in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “All I read was Adele thinks about me in bed <3.”
Adele is nearing the end of her Weekends with Adele residency, set to conclude officially on June 15. She began her performances in November 2022 and took several short breaks, including a period of vocal rest in February 2024. At the time, she informed fans that she needed to rest her voice due to illness. “I love you, I’ll miss you like mad and I’m sorry for the inconvenience,” she wrote in an Instagram post, expressing her regret to her fans.
