After Weeks of Separation, JLo Officially Files For Divorce from Ben Affleck
The whirlwind romance has come to its second end. After two years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have called it quits.
On August 20th, Lopez officially filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court. According to TMZ, she filed “pro per,” meaning without an attorney—she is technically self-represented. According to sources, there was no prenuptial agreement.
While the 55-year-old singer listed April 26, 2024 as the date of separation on the divorce filing, August 20 is an important date for her and the 52-year-old Justice League actor. It marks the second anniversary of their lavish wedding ceremony in Affleck’s 87-acre property in Savannah, Georgia.
The couple first got together in 2002 and called off their engagement in 2004 (sound familiar?). They rekindled their romance, went Instagram official in 2021, and announced their second engagement in April 2022. They obtained a license and eloped at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022.
An exclusive source told People that Lopez filed for divorce because she was “done waiting.” The couple have spent the last few months apart.
The source continued, “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken. The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
Lopez shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Antony. Affleck shares three children—Violet (18), Fin (15), and Samuel (12)—with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. The five children have been photographed together multiple times and seem to have friendly relationships.
A source close to Page Six said: “His kids are taking it fine as are hers. Everybody is ready to move on.”
Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday in July with a massive Bridgerton-inspired party and the Hamptons in New York. Affleck did not attend.
The Marry Me singer was seen visiting Affleck’s rental home in Los Angeles, where he quietly celebrated his 52nd birthday with his children on August 15th. According to sources, “It was exactly what he wanted. He didn’t want to go out to celebrate. The kids had gifts for him, and it was cute. Jennifer [Lopez] stopped by to congratulate him.”
Lopez seems to be dealing with this second separation well. Insiders said: “Considering everything that’s going on, Jennifer is having a good summer. She’s been off and able to focus on what’s next.”
The couple quietly put their $61 million mansion on the market in June, and Lopez has been looking for a new home. “Jennifer is trying to find a new home to start fresh. She always has a good attitude even when things are not perfect.”
