Alyson Stoner Reveals They Don’t Talk To Missy Elliott 23 Years After Dancing In “Work It” Music Video

Alyson Stoner might have been the tiny dance prodigy in Missy Elliott’s legendary Work It video, but no, they are not texting Missy on weekends. In a TikTok that blew up this week, Alyson, now 32, used the viral “I Have One Daughter” audio to answer a question they swear people ask them every single week: “Do you still talk to Missy Elliott?”
Playing both the fan and themselves, Alyson reenacted the exchange. “Oh, I was nine. That was 23 years ago,” they replied matter-of-factly. The imaginary fan pushed: “Yeah, so can’t you just call her up?”
Alyson’s response goes: “…I was 9. We never hung out. It would’ve been inappropriate.”
The pretend conversation only got more absurd, as Alyson recalled the fan saying, “So you weren’t friends?”
She again responded, “I was nine. A literal child.”
Finally, the kicker, the person asked, “Could you ask her to perform at my wedding?”
Alyson stared at the camera in silent horror before muttering, “What the hell…”
TikTok went wild with over 5 million views, 435,000 likes, and comments from fans, including one who remembered the early 2000s rumor that Missy had adopted Alyson.
Work It, released in 2002, became a cultural landmark, hitting No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and snagging Video of the Year at the 2003 MTV VMAs. Alyson went on to dance in more Missy videos, including, Gossip Folks, Pass That Dutch and I’m Really Hot plus Eminem’s Just Lose It.
At the same time, Alyson’s acting career was exploding. Mike’s Super Short Show on Disney Channel, guest spots on Drake & Josh, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and That’s So Raven, plus movie roles in Cheaper by the Dozen, Step Up, and Camp Rock. Voice acting? They nailed that too, from Lilo & Stitch: The Series to Phineas and Ferb, a role they reprised for the show’s 2024 return.
These days, Alyson wears many hats: host of the award-winning Dear Hollywood podcast, CEO of the mental health company Movement Genius and recent cast member of Child Stars, a 2024 documentary directed by Demi Lovato.
This week also marks the release of their memoir, Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything. Speaking to PEOPLE last year, Alyson described it as “truths I’ve held closest — details left unsaid because of legal contracts, stories not even my family and friends know and an extremely intimate journey of mental health and self-development.”
And while Alyson may not be on speed dial with Missy, they remain grateful for that 2002 moment. As they once told Vibe, “To this day, I’m really grateful for Missy and whoever’s idea it was to put kids in the video.”
