Amy Adams Reveals How Motherhood Changed Her Life And Priorities
Amy Adams is getting real about how becoming a mother changed everything for her. The 50-year-old actress, known for her roles in Enchanted and Arrival, shared in a recent interview with Variety how the birth of her daughter, Aviana, 14, shifted her focus and priorities in life.
“Every moment needed to be dedicated to the care and keeping of my child,” Amy revealed, explaining how raising Aviana with her husband, Darren Le Gallo, and the support of her six siblings, made her realize that motherhood took center stage. This shift also impacted her relationships with others.
“Motherhood did redirect my priorities. And I think that changed some relationships. That was hard, but I don’t think it’s uncommon,” she added.
Amy’s family made a rare public appearance together when they stepped out on the red carpet for the premiere of her new film, Nightbitch, at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. While Amy dazzled in a midnight blue, off-the-shoulder Prada gown, her daughter Aviana looked elegant in a strapless black dress, as they celebrated the film’s debut as a family.
Speaking to PEOPLE on the TIFF red carpet, Amy talked about what it meant to share such a special night with Aviana. “Parts of it I’m excited to share with her, being that it’s her mom I’m gonna be a little bit more protective of certain aspects of the filmmaking,” she said, hinting at the quirky storyline of Nightbitch, where her character, a new mom, becomes convinced she’s turning into a dog.
More importantly, Amy expressed how deeply motherhood has shaped her life. “I think what I want her to know about my experience of motherhood is how much she’s enriched my life and made me the woman that I am today. I tell her that all the time, but it’s true and I’m glad that she’s here tonight to get to celebrate with me.”
As Amy balances motherhood with her Hollywood career, she continues to credit Aviana as her biggest inspiration. She also hopes to be a source of inspiration for her daughter, as she shared in a 2017 interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“I want [Aviana] to know that it is not just women that can soar, she can soar and she needs to find her own light. I know she is on that path. That is something that I need to remind her. No light that shines on me creates a shadow for her to stand in,” he stated.
