Andy Roddick Praises Ex Mandy Moore 20 Years After Breakup: “I Couldn’t Have More Respect For Her
Andy Roddick has nothing but kind words for his ex-girlfriend Mandy Moore, even two decades after they went their separate ways. The former tennis star, now 42, looked back on 2004 — a time when he was at the top of his career and dating Mandy — with PEOPLE in a recent interview.
In 2004, Andy was riding high as the No. 1 men’s tennis player and had just claimed his first Grand Slam title at the 2003 US Open. He and Mandy, now 40, had met on the set of her film How to Deal, and the two started dating soon after. But by March of that year, the young couple decided to call it quits.
However, there’s no bitterness between the exes. “I couldn’t have more respect for her,” Andy shared, adding, “We were certainly young, with our whole lives ahead of us, but she’s someone I am thankful for.”
Even though the pair isn’t in frequent contact these days, Andy says he’s always appreciated Mandy and still roots for her happiness. In fact, it’s his wife, model and actress Brooklyn Decker, who keeps in touch with the This Is Us star more than he does. Mandy has even recorded videos for the Andy Roddick Foundation when asked.
“I think she’s a 10-out-of-10 human,” Andy said warmly.
Mandy also spoke kindly of her ex earlier this year. After GQ published a profile on Andy to mark the 20th anniversary of his US Open win, Mandy took to social media to congratulate him. “Although we’re not in touch, I was so moved by this article reflecting on the 20th anniversary of his US Open win and the kind of life he’s led since. I’m so happy for him and his family. Congrats on this milestone Andy!” she wrote in a Story post on her Instagram.
Today, both Andy and Mandy have found happiness in their personal lives. Andy has been married to Brooklyn, 37, for 15 years, and the couple shares two children – 9-year-old Hank and 6-year-old Stevie. “The marriage has been the joy of a lifetime,” the Grand Slam champion gushed.
He jokingly added, “I’m thankful that I somehow, in a moment of weakness, convinced her to choose me on a day. And we’ve certainly committed to it ever since.”
Mandy, on the other hand, found love with Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith. The couple met in a very modern way — after she posted about the band’s album on Instagram. They got engaged in 2017 and married the following year. Mandy and Taylor now have three children together – 3-year-old August, 2-year-old Oscar, and their newest addition, Louise, born in September 2024.
Despite their lives going in different directions, it’s clear that there’s a lot of mutual respect and good memories between Andy and Mandy.
