Angela Scanlon Explains Why She Bid Farewell To Strictly Come Dancing Amid Controversy
Angela Scanlon, the beloved TV presenter, has shared her thoughts on her recent exit from Strictly Come Dancing, stirring up quite a storm among fans. The 39-year-old star, known for her infectious energy, expressed her belief that her journey on the BBC show with her professional partner, Carlos Gu, was “cut a little short.”
In Sunday’s nail-biting dance-off, Angela narrowly missed securing a spot in the quarter-finals. Her cha-cha-cha to Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive failed to sway the judges, resulting in actor Layton Williams and pro Nikita Kuzmin being saved instead. Angela took to Instagram to reveal her feelings, hinting that the whispers of rigged results might hold some truth.
In a heartfelt post, she confessed, “Over and out. What a wild ride it’s been. It feels like it’s been cut a little short, but maybe there’s a bigger plan. When I signed up to do Strictly, I hoped I’d leave the show with an arse like Kim Kardashian and a few killer moves for family weddings.”
She went on to express how her journey on the show had brought unexpected personal growth. Angela, a self-proclaimed recovering perfectionist, highlighted the challenges of performing in front of millions, receiving feedback, and mastering complex dances like the Paso Doble.
But amid the difficulties, she found joy in dancing every week and the unwavering support of her partner, Carlos. She described their bond as an “absolutely unexpected gift” and thanked him, calling him her favorite.
Angela concluded her post with a promise of more to come but left her followers hanging as she mentioned she was indulging in a relaxing Epsom salt bath with a cinnamon swirl.
Angela’s journey on Strictly Come Dancing had its ups and downs. During Saturday’s show, she found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard, leading to concerns among her fans that she might be the next to leave the ballroom.
The fate of the contestants rested in the hands of the judges and the voting public. In the intense dance-off, Angela faced off against Layton and Nikita, who performed an American Smooth to Perry Como’s Magic Moments and scored 34 points.
The judges had their say, and three out of four voted to save Layton and Nikita. Craig Revel Horwood praised their performance for its technical prowess and personal enjoyment. Motsi Mabuse based her decision on musicality and balance. Anton Du Beke noted the close competition but pointed out an error from one of the couples, ultimately voting for Layton and Nikita.
However, Head Judge Shirley Ballas, while acknowledging the importance of dance character and timing, expressed her preference for Angela and Carlos. Despite her vote, Layton and Nikita secured the majority and continued in the competition.
Angela and Carlos bid their farewell with grace, expressing their gratitude for the memorable experience and the bond they had formed. As Strictly Come Dancing moves forward, the remaining five couples will soon take the dancefloor for a Musicals special, promising more entertainment for fans.
