Ariana Grande Releases A Video Addressing Body Shamers Commenting On Her Changing Appearance
Last Tuesday, Ariana Grande took to social media and powerfully addressed body-shamers.
The 29-year-old songstress shared a video on her TikTok where she acknowledged the concern among fans about her recent appearance. She also clarified that she is at her healthiest right now compared to before.
Ariana, who spent several weeks in London filming the Wicked adaptation, had to deal with social media comments focused on her height and the weight loss visible on the singer’s face. As expected from social media users, some comments were rude, with some providing unsolicited advice.
But Ariana clearly stated that the public’s notion of her healthy appearance was when she was unhealthiest and that her current appearance reflects a massive improvement in her overall health and wellness.
Ariana kept the selfie video casual, and she had it filmed against some windows while wearing a zip-up hoodie and a light-colored pink top. Before starting her video, the 7-Rings singer stated that this kind of content was something she rarely did and that it was not her cup of tea.
She also admitted that she could be better at doing what she was about to do.
Then she continued, “I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and paid such close attention to. I think we should be gentle and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what. This included even cutting out positive compliments if they are too focused on one’s appearance.”
She also recommended that her fans and critics focus less on the physical and learn how to ignore her features or, for that matter, that of anyone they like or don’t like.
Ariana added, “I think we should help each other work towards just being safer and keeping each other safer.”
She then focused on herself and stated that, contrary to what most fans think, she is in better health now.
Ariana emphasized that there are many kinds of beauty and many ways to look beautiful and healthy. For the singer, the body that almost everyone thought was beautiful was unhealthy.
She elaborated that the version of her beautiful body that fans saw as healthy back then was full of antidepressants, probably influenced by the Manchester bombing incident. And back then, she ate poorly, given that she also experienced many low points. She couldn’t reiterate enough that her old body wasn’t healthy.
During her TikTok video, Ariana stated, “I know I shouldn’t have to explain that, but I feel like maybe having an openness or vulnerability, something good might come from it. That’s the first thing; healthy can look different.”
She also frankly stated that most of her fans are not her real-life friends, so they don’t know how she’s really doing physically and mentally.
