Ben Affleck And Jennifer Lopez Face Challenges in Their Marriage, Insider Says
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage is facing some turbulence. A source close to Jennifer revealed to PEOPLE that their relationship “is not in the best place at the moment.”
This news comes less than two years after the couple eloped in Las Vegas and celebrated their union with a lavish reception in Georgia, which Jennifer described as a “dream.”
The couple’s differing personalities and views on privacy are at the heart of their current struggles, according to sources. Jennifer, 54, loves to share her life with fans, residing in their $60 million Beverly Hills home, while Ben, 51, prefers a more private approach, currently staying in a rental a few miles away.
“She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world,” a music source said about Jennifer. Of Ben, the source said, “He is more introspective and private. This has been difficult day-to-day.”
Their differences were highlighted in Jennifer’s documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which she filmed while making the movie This Is Me…Now: A Love Story. The documentary, which debuted on Prime Video in February, showcased Ben discussing their rekindled romance in 2021, 17 years after their initial relationship ended under the intense scrutiny of the media. “Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media,’” he explained.
He then admitted it was unfair to ask Jennifer to change who she is, comparing it to “marrying a boat captain and saying, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’”
Ben shares children Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Sam, 12, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, while Jennifer has 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. The couple has been trying to navigate their relationship despite their different approaches.
According to Ben, they’re “two people with different kinds of approaches trying to learn to compromise.”
Although Ben participated in the documentary and other projects like Jennifer’s 2002 music video for Jenny From the Block, he has never been completely comfortable showcasing their romance to the public.
“He’s always been impressed with how she works so hard and has achieved so much success. But the openness and promotion is not his way,” the film source revealed.
Jennifer, who self-financed the documentary and is launching a 30-show North American tour this summer to promote her new album This Is Me…Now, sometimes feels frustrated with Ben’s lack of structure and discipline.
“This is not a bad thing. But it causes frustration,” the film source added.
Despite these challenges, the couple shares a deep bond that spans two decades. “There have always been clashes in their styles and how they handle issues, but nothing has stopped their love over the years,” the music source says.
As for the future, it remains uncertain. “I don’t know if they will split, or if this is something they will work through,” the film source concludes. One thing is certain: the love between Ben and Jennifer has endured many ups and downs over the years.
