Bon Jovi Gives Health Update, Says He’s More Than Capable Of Singing After Vocal Surgery
In a heartfelt moment at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica on Wednesday, April 10, Jon Bon Jovi, the iconic frontman of the legendary Bon Jovi band, opened up about his journey to recovery after undergoing vocal cord surgery in 2022.
Speaking at the Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story docuseries Screening and Q+A event, Bon, 62, shared candidly about the challenges he faced and the progress he’s made since the surgery.
“What you saw on film was shot last March in that scene when I couldn’t sing well, or two years ago when I was on the road. “I’m well into the recovery. I’m more than capable of singing. It’s just that for me, the bar is two and a half hours a night, four nights a week, before I say we’re going to go and do any shows,” he began.
“So I’m well back on the road to recovery, not a day of it’s easy. Every day is a struggle, but I’m more than capable of doing it again,” he continued.
With a touch of humor, he added, “I’m f—ing Bon Jovi!”
Reflecting on his vocal abilities and the impact of the surgery, Bon expressed pride in his vocal prowess, emphasizing his dedication to the craft after decades of experience.
“I pride myself on having been a true vocalist. “I’ve sung with Pavarotti. I know how to sing. I’ve studied the craft for 40 years. I’m not a stylist who just barks and howls. I know how to sing,” he stated.
“So when God was taking away my ability, and I couldn’t understand why, I jokingly have said the only thing that’s ever been up my nose is my finger — you know, so there’s no reason for any of this,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Bon remains dedicated to his music, highlighting the hard work put into his latest album, Forever, set to release on June 7.
“It’s not easy. It’s difficult. The old adage with me in the heyday is, and the singer went home, that was the end of every story and the singer went home,” he stated, adding, “Like I said, it’s my 18th album and we worked as harder or harder on this album as I did on Slippery When Wet, in fact, harder because we’re not as naïve as we were in 1986.”
The upcoming docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight, promises an intimate look at the journey of Bon and his bandmates, from their humble beginnings in New Jersey to global stardom. Featuring interviews with current and past band members, as well as industry insiders and family members, the series offers a revealing glimpse into the highs and lows of their career.
