Brandy Breaks Silence After Walking Off Stage In Chicago
Brandy is setting the record straight after a dramatic onstage moment left fans concerned over the weekend. The Grammy-winning singer, 46, broke her silence on Oct. 19, following an incident during her joint concert with Monica at the United Center in Chicago, where she abruptly left the stage mid-performance and never returned.
“Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers,” Brandy began in her Instagram post. “I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”
Brandy explained that she tried to push through despite not feeling well, but the show’s technical demands made it difficult to continue. In her words: “I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.”
Videos shared by fans showed the singer telling the audience, “Give me one second, y’all. I gotta get my …” before walking offstage. She did not come back, leaving the crowd confused.
Monica, 44, finished the concert solo but the two didn’t get to perform their iconic 1998 hit The Boy Is Mine, the song that inspired their reunion tour’s name.
In her post, Brandy took a moment to thank her longtime friend and tourmate for stepping up. “I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism, and to the entire crew for their continued care and support. I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward,” she wrote.
She ended her message with gratitude and reassurance for fans: “Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me. I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis.”
Monica later reshared Brandy’s message on her Instagram Stories, signaling her support.
The pair launched The Boy Is Mine Tour earlier this year, marking more than 20 years since their chart-topping duet became an R&B classic. Just weeks ago, Brandy reflected on the song’s legacy in an interview with Essence, saying, “I see it as so much bigger than just a hit record. At the time, it was two young women coming together, bringing our voices and our stories into one moment — and the world connected with it in a way we couldn’t have imagined.”
