Cardi B Says She Has Been Struggling To Help Husband Offset Cope With Takeoff’s Death
Following the death of Migos bandmate Takeoff earlier this month, Cardi B says she has been trying hard to make her husband Offset feel happy.
In a now-deleted Twitter voice note, the 30-year-old rapper opened up about the impact the loss has had on her and her husband. “We living our life normally, but deep down inside our hearts have been so heavy,” she said.
On November 1, Kirsnick Khari Ball, also known as Takeoff, was killed outside a bowling alley in Houston, Texas. Aside from being one-third of Atlanta hip-hop trio Migos, Takeoff is Offset’s cousin.
The news of the 28-year-old’s death was met with silence by Offset for about two weeks. Then, in an emotional post on November 15, he finally publicly reacted to his bandmate and cousin’s death, saying that the news felt far from reality. “Dear Take, it doesn’t feel real posting you like this,” he started.
“I wish I could hug you one last time. Laugh one last time. Smoke one [sic] one last time,” he wrote, adding, “I hope you can see how much we love you and miss you.”
Offset also declared that the loss has left a hole in his heart that “will never be filled.” Now, wife Cardi shared that they still feel so much hurt even though they try to live their lives normally in order to avoid sympathy. “I feel like if I talk about the incident so desensitized,” she said, “I feel like if we talk about how we really feel or what motherf—kers really been going through, y’all will start saying, ‘Oh, sympathy.’”
For the mom of two, the grieving process is still very real even though she still posts Instagram stories featuring Offset. Detailing her efforts to help her husband navigate the pain he feels at the loss of his cousin, she said she has to deal with seeing him randomly cry or try to distract himself from the situation and keep up with work. The mental damage is so bad that she has to sometimes try to make him “crack a smile.”
The hopelessness Cardi feels helping Offset cope with Takeoff’s death is worsened by his schedule, which she said has constantly been changing as he tries to keep up with work amidst the trauma. She ends the voice note with a warning to let the public know she and her husband are “not in the mood” to be “playing around.”
