Carly Rae Jepsen Ensures Safety And Makes It Right For Fans After NYC Show Gets Canceled Due To Lightning
An unexpected lightning storm may have cut short Carly Rae Jepsen’s concert at The Rooftop at Pier 17, but the pop star’s dedication to her fans shone brightly as she turned adversity into an opportunity for connection. Carly, 37, took the stage again to give her loyal supporters an impromptu show nearby, along with a surprise matinee the following day.
As rain poured down after Jepsen performed about four songs, the songstress addressed the disappointed crowd with a heartfelt message, saying, “Hello loves, I found out in real time just like you did too, and I’m so sorry. But we’re gonna make it up to you — I promise.” She emphasized that safety was paramount, explaining, “Apparently it’s a safety issue, so we want to keep you off the roof. No one’s getting electrocuted tonight! But we’ll make up for it.”
Once the concert venue cleared out, the Run Away With Me singer took matters into her own hands, using social media to announce an intimate show at Rockwood Music Hall. She shared her determination, stating, “Lightning made us quit early today but I am not in the quitting mood.” However, the new location’s capacity was significantly smaller than Pier 17’s, leading to a creative solution. The star welcomed small groups of fans into the venue, cycling them in and out to ensure that everyone could experience her performance.
The surprises didn’t end there. Ahead of her scheduled second show at The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Tuesday night, Carly treated her supporters to a matinee concert in the afternoon. This special gesture was designed to make up for the abrupt end to the previous performance.
Reflecting on the situation, the singer shared her feelings on Instagram, writing, “Before the lightning hit, I had one of those feelings that the evening was destined to be magical. Four songs in, I was certain I was right and even when some light rain started I believed nothing could stop us.”
Expressing her disappointment when the performance was cut short, she added, “When the announcement came over the rooftop that the pier was closed due to [lightning], I felt a wave of shock and indignation that we had all been cheated a proper cathartic New York night together.”
Carly’s team worked diligently to salvage the situation, contacting venues for an alternative stage. Rockwood Music Hall came to the rescue, allowing her to perform despite the challenges. With a dash of humor and inspiration, she mentioned, “Following Prince’s footsteps, we snuck in three rounds of a full house and played with borrowed instruments (ours were still held hostage on the roof).”
In her closing message, the Call Me Maybe singer extended her heartfelt appreciation, saying, “Thank you for rallying and being down to get down with an impromptu show or three!” Despite the unexpected hurdles, her determination and genuine care for her fans turned a disappointing moment into a series of unforgettable experiences.
