Céline Dion Finds Strength In The Love Of Her Kids Amid Stiff-Person Syndrome Battle
Amid her battle with stiff-person syndrome, Céline Dion is finding solace in the unwavering support of her children. In an exclusive interview with Vogue France, the 56-year-old singer opened up about the challenges posed by the syndrome and what keeps her going.
Asked what helps her the most amid the struggles she faces, she said, “Above all, the love of my family and my children, and the love of the fans too, and the support of my team.”
Acknowledging her privilege, Celine highlighted the plight of others suffering from SPS who may lack access to quality healthcare. “People who suffer from SPS may not be lucky enough or have the means to have good doctors and good treatments. I have the means, this is a gift,” she shared.
Celine’s sons, René-Charles, aged 23, and twins Nelson and Eddy, aged 13, whom she shares with her late husband, René Angélil, have been her pillars of strength throughout her journey. Sources close to the singer revealed how her sons have been her guiding light during challenging times.
“Her sons are her everything, especially during times like these. Céline’s love for her boys knows no bounds. They provide her with the unwavering support and love that she needs,” shared a close source.
Recently, Dion shared a heartwarming photo on her Instagram, featuring all three of her sons, marking International Stiff-Person Syndrome Awareness Day on March 15, 2024. In a touching caption, written in both English and French, she expressed her determination to overcome the autoimmune disorder and return to the stage one day.
“Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible. I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you!” she wrote.
Last year, a source close to the My Heart Will Go On hitmaker told PEOPLE that her sons were “her light” when she was forced to cancel her tour dates through April 2024 due to her stiff-person syndrome.
“Her main focuses are always her sons and performing. She is the most selfless and considerate person. Céline just loves her boys so much. They are amazing. They give her all the support and love that she needs,” the source said.
Celine is still not sure when she will return to performing on stage, as she told Vogue France this week that, “I can’t answer that… Because for four years I’ve been saying to myself that I’m not going back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready. As things stand, I can’t stand here and say to you: ‘Yes, in four months.’ I don’t know… My body will tell me. On the other hand, I don’t just want to wait.”
