David Beckham Jokes About Gordon Ramsay Cooking For Him Just Once in 22 Years
David Beckham and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay have been close friends for over two decades, but surprisingly, the fiery chef has only cooked for David once in all that time! “We’ve been friends for about 22 years, and he’s cooked for me once. One time in 22 years!” David, 49, told PEOPLE at Stella Artois’ Let’s Do Dinner event in New York City.
David, who was there as a global ambassador for the beer brand, spoke about his love of cooking and how it plays a central role in bringing his family together. For the former soccer star, good food isn’t just about eating — it’s about creating meaningful connections.
“It’s why I love to cook. It’s why I love to eat. It’s why I always love to barbecue for the family because it really brings us together. Our family has always been a family that sits down at six o’clock every night — when we’re all in the same country,” he shared.
David is a proud family man, often hosting BBQs and meals for his wife, Victoria, and their four kids — 25-year-old Brooklyn, 22-year-old Romeo, 19-year-old Cruz, and 13-year-old Harper.
Despite his own culinary skills, it’s Ramsay who’s responsible for teaching one of David’s sons how to make a mean Beef Wellington. “One of my sons is obsessed with Beef Wellington — Gordon is famous for beef Wellington – and he taught my son how to do it for himself,” David explained, adding, “So he wasn’t even really cooking for us, but we ended up eating it anyway.”
David also recounted a hilarious memory of the time he and Ramsay had a cook-off on one of the chef’s TV shows in Los Angeles. “I think he cheated in all honesty,” he joked.
“He said you were allowed to add one ingredient right at the end, but it had to be a surprise. So I was like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to add something.’ I don’t know what it was, but he brought out fresh lobster. He got away with it!” he added.
While Ramsay might not have cooked for David’s family as much as fans might expect, their bond remains strong. Ramsay, who spoke to PEOPLE in 2023, praised the Beckhams as being “down to earth, hardworking, and amazing foodies,” adding that they share similar values with his own family.
