Dead To Me Star Christina Applegate Makes A First-Time Appearance At The Critics’ Choice Awards Since Her MS Diagnosis
On Sunday, Christina Applegate made her first awards show appearance since the actor announced her MS diagnosis.
The Dead To Me star was seen supporting her movement with a silver cane and accompanied by her 11-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble whom she had with her husband, Martyn LeNoble. The actress skipped the red carpet but made a few poses backstage for the cameras at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
Earlier in August 2021, Christina was diagnosed with MS while in the middle of filming the third season of the Netflix show Dead To Me. She also revealed that her diagnosis led to a 40lb weight gain and a decline in mobility.
The actor nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Dead To Me lost out to actor Jean Smart from the HBO series, Hacks. In the Netflix series, Christina plays Jen Harding, a wealthy real estate agent who bonds at a grief counseling meeting with a woman after losing her husband to a hit-and-run accident.
Posing for backstage pictures, the actor was dressed in a black suit with chunky black boots. She accessorized her look with a silver necklace that had a moon pendant. To complete her style was a pearl bracelet and a black nose mask below her chin.
Christina’s daughter was also dressed in a suit with a hat and nose mask. At the awards, she was seen mingling and sharing a few candid shots with her old pal, Julia Roberts.
The actress tweeted a few days before the awards: “So this Sunday will be the first awards show I have been to since 2019. And the first since MS. NERVOUS! But grateful to the @CriticsChoice for including me.”
In 2021, the Netflix star revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis “a few months ago.” Talking about it then, she wrote: “It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a****** blocks it.”
The actress continued, “As one of my friends that has MS said, ‘we wake up and take the indicated action.’ And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thank you xo.”
In 2008, Christina battled breast cancer which led to a double mastectomy. Also, the actress had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in 2017.
