Dolly Parton Prefers Fax Machines To Texts and Emails
Can’t get in touch with Dolly Parton? It turns out that close friends and family of the legendary country singer have resorted to fax machines because she prefers them over texts and emails.
Earlier this month, Dolly appeared on Watch What Happens Live with her friend and fellow musician, Reba McEntire. During the show, Reba revealed that she can only get in touch with Dolly by sending a fax message.
According to the 68-year-old, “You don’t call Dolly, you fax her. You fax your people, and your people talk to her people. That’s the only way I know how to get ahold of her.”
Sharing her friend’s preference, Reba continued, “Dolly doesn’t text. I don’t have her telephone number, and I asked Kenny Rogers one time. I said, ‘Do you have Dolly’s number?’ He said, ‘No.”
Dolly divulged her views on technology when she guested on The View. The multi-awarded celebrity said, “Actually, I don’t want to get into that world.” By “that world,” the singer was referring to modern methods of communication like text messaging, calling with mobile phones, sending emails, and messaging through social media platforms.
She explained to Alyssa Farah Griffin, the show’s co-host, that she was surrounded by enough people.
Apparently, Dolly is just one of Reba’s friends who expressed frustration at her old-school use of fax machines.
Her penchant for old technology didn’t sit well with the late country music singer Kenny Rogers either. The “Jolene” star shared, “Kenny Rogers used to aggravate me about it. Look, I’ll send you a message by carrier pigeon if I need to get in touch with you. You always seem to know how to reach me when you want something!”
The Tennessee native further explained her side by admitting, “So, I actually, I never did get involved in all that because it’ll take up too much of my time if I tried to get in touch with everybody who is trying to get in touch with me. So, I just say, ‘Fax me! Fax me or call me, and I’ll call you back.'”
Miley Cyrus, her famous goddaughter, can confirm Dolly’s extreme love for faxing.
The Plastic Hearts actress remembered how Dolly sent her a fax asking if she’d like to collaborate on a holiday album for a guest appearance on The Graham Norton Show in October 2021.
Miley also described the roundabout way they communicate with each other. “Every time I coordinate and kind of communicate with Dolly, it’s still through fax. We do use the phone, but she does a fax and then someone scans the fax and then they put it into a text message. And then that gets sent to me, and it’s always signed,” she said.
Miley, 30, admitted that she doesn’t own a fax machine and that her godmother would get upset when people don’t respond to her. The “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker joked, “I’m sorry, I don’t even know. Half the people watching your show might not even know what a fax machine is!”
