Don Omar Celebrates Being Cancer-Free And Gearing Up For Tour
Don Omar, the renowned Puerto Rican rapper, has joyful news to share with his fans. On Tuesday, June 18, he announced that he is cancer-free, just one day after revealing his diagnosis. The 46-year-old artist took to Instagram to express his gratitude and relief.
“I woke up today cancer-free and grateful,” Don Omar wrote in Spanish, accompanied by a photo of himself flashing a peace sign.
“Thank you for your good wishes, prayers, and thousands of messages. My surgery was a success, and now to recover,” he added.
On Monday, June 17, Don Omar, whose real name is William Omar Landrón Rivera, had disclosed his cancer diagnosis on Instagram.
“Today yes, but tomorrow I won’t have cancer,” he captioned an image of his hospital wristband from an Orlando medical center. “Good intentions are well received. See you soon. #f—cancer,” he added.
The news came just hours after he posted an Instagram Reel featuring dancers auditioning for the second leg of his Back to Reggaetón Tour.
“The most special thing about today’s auditions is seeing that there are people who want to dare to dream with me. Thank you to each of you who gave your all on the dance floor! This second stage of the tour comes with everything,” he wrote on June 15.
The second leg of his Back to Reggaeton tour is set to launch on Wednesday, August 7, in Oakland, California. The tour, which began in 2023, marked his comeback with the release of his album Forever King. The first leg ran from March 7 to April 21, and due to popular demand, it was extended by 18 dates.
In addition to his health update and tour news, Don Omar recently ended a long-standing feud with fellow reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee. In December, both artists shared heartfelt statements on social media, putting an end to their rivalry.
“Today we close the book that kept the best chapters of our controversial rivalry. Thank you for your words and for listening to mine that came from the heart as well. I wish you the best for you and your family. Thank you for your competitiveness and admirable discipline but even more thank you for what you did for our music,” Don Omar wrote on Instagram about Daddy Yankee.”
He continued, “Thank you for collaborating and for competing because I did it with a titan. I keep the good memories, the laughs, the dreams together, and the desire for a last round with such a great adversary. We will meet again soon because I owe you a hug and thank you in person. In the meantime, long live King Daddy.”
With his health restored and his tour on the horizon, Don Omar is ready to bring his music and energy back to the stage.
