Drew Barrymore Talks Parenting Challenges On The Drew Barrymore Show
In a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, actress Drew Barrymore, 49, opened up about a conversation she had with her preteen daughter regarding clothing choices. Drew, who shares two daughters, Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, discussed her daughter’s desire to wear a crop top.
“My daughter wants to wear a crop top. I’ll say ‘no,’ and she’ll go, ‘You were on the cover of Playboy,'” she shared.
Drew’s guest, singer Christina Aguilera, empathized with the situation, sharing her own experience with her daughter’s fashion choices. Christina, who has a son, Max, 16, with ex-husband Jordan Bartman, and a daughter, Summer, 9, with fiancé Matthew Rutler, revealed her daughter’s similar desire to wear a crop top.
“Well, I knew it was coming the day I wore chaps. I’m like, ‘One day, I know I’m going to be like…’ ‘Cause my daughter wants to wear a crop top, too. And I’m just like, ‘Can we just pull it down?’ I see myself doing that,” she stated.
The conversation took a deeper turn as Christina emphasized the importance of self-expression and empowerment. Reflecting on their past experiences, including Christina’s provocative outfits and Drew’s Playboy cover, the two women agreed that embracing one’s body and personal style is empowering.
“Even when you take it back to chaps or even you on Playboy, we were expressing ourselves and how we felt was best for us I think at the time. And that was empowering. We didn’t do it for someone else. And then there’s so many labels and judgments saying like, ‘Oh, you’re doing it for a guy.’ No, you’re making it about that narrative in your own head,” Christina stated.
“It’s empowering being a female and embracing your body and everything that makes you feel good or womanly,” she added.
Drew expressed gratitude for Christina’s insights, acknowledging the significance of promoting positive body image and self-confidence, especially to young girls.
“You are such a good mom and I’ll tell you why. To encourage sane, strong, empowered, healthy body image and sense of self is something that is so powerful. Hearing you say this is exactly what I needed to hear,” she stated.
