Dua Lipa Announces New Album “Radical Optimism”
Dua Lipa, the Grammy-winning artist, has unveiled details about her highly anticipated third studio album, Radical Optimism, set to be released on May 3. The album, consisting of 11 tracks, promises a fusion of genres inspired by the concept of embracing chaos with grace.
In a statement, Dua, 28, shared her inspiration behind the album’s title, reflecting on the idea of navigating through challenges with a sense of hope and resilience.
“A couple years ago, a friend introduced me to the term Radical Optimism. It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life,” she stated.
“It struck me – the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm,” she explained further.
Teasing the musical direction of Radical Optimism, Dua hinted at exploring genres such as psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop, infusing her signature style with a confidently optimistic attitude.
The album has already seen success with two singles, Houdini and Training Season, both of which have charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Dua showcased these tracks during her recent performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where her Barbie soundtrack hit Dance the Night received nominations for song of the year and best song written for visual media.
In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Dua revealed the extensive creative process behind Radical Optimism, disclosing that she wrote a staggering 97 songs for the album. Surprisingly, these songs were penned in a humble notebook purchased from a local pharmacy chain, CVS.
“I started writing for this album in 2021, and I just wanted to write my ideas down,” the Levitation singer shared, emphasizing the unexpected significance of the simple purchase. “So, I went down to CVS, and I just bought a random notebook. Had I have known how important that book would’ve been, maybe I would’ve gotten a more fancy one,” she added.
Despite the unconventional origin of her creative outlet, Dua expressed fondness for the mundane yet familiar setting of CVS.
“I love CVS. I’m obsessed with it. There’s nothing like a CVS or going in and buying a bunch of stuff you don’t need,” she added.
