Elton John Reveals Vision Struggles After Severe Eye Infection
Elton John has opened up about a recent health challenge that has affected his vision. On September 3, the 77-year-old Tiny Dancer icon took to Instagram to share an update with his fans, revealing that he has “limited vision” in one eye due to a severe eye infection.
Elton explained that the infection, which he has been battling over the summer, has left him with reduced sight in one eye.
“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he wrote.
Despite the slow recovery, Elton remains positive, expressing gratitude for the support he’s received. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” he continued.
The music legend also shared that he has been quietly recuperating at home, focusing on his recovery. His update drew an outpouring of well wishes from fans and celebrities alike, with messages of support coming from Donatella Versace, Billie Jean King, TJ Osborne, Linda Evangelista, Loni Love, and many others.
This latest health scare comes after a challenging period for Elton. Last year, he was hospitalized following a slip at his villa in Mont Boron, France. He was taken to Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco and kept overnight for observation. Thankfully, the visit was precautionary, and he was quickly discharged. A representative for Elton reassured fans at the time, stating, “Following check ups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health.”
Elton’s health issues have been ongoing. A previous fall in 2021 led him to delay the remainder of his tour dates to 2023. The accident left him with significant pain and discomfort in his hip, which required surgery. “I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications,” the singer and songwriter shared at the time.
