Emily Blunt Clarifies: It’s A Rest, Not Retirement, For Her Hollywood Career
The Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt recently declared that she will be taking a break from Hollywood because she wants to spend time with her family.
Now, this statement was misinterpreted by some to mean that Emily is turning her back on the industry and leaving for good. But Emily insisted that her break was not forever.
While speaking to Deadline, the British actress shared that her recent announcement was blown out of proportion and that her intended break will only last for a couple of months, not years, and not forever.
Telling the outlet during the premiere of Oppenheimer in London last Thursday, Emily said, “Honestly, that story got so overblown. I’m just taking a little downtime, not quitting Hollywood. I was just taking some months off to be with the kids.”
Emily and her husband of 13 years, John Krasinski, have two daughters, 9-year-old Hazel and 7-year-old Violet.
The Golden Globe winner mentioned her plans to take a break when she guested on the Table for Two podcast and stated that she wouldn’t be working this year, given that she worked quite a bit last year. Further, she mentioned that her oldest child is already nine, and she and her husband are already in the last year of the single digits of childhood.
She explained, “And I just feel [like] there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little.”
And Emily knew there would come a time when her daughter would stop asking her questions like, “Will you pick me up? Will you take me to school? Will you wake me up? Will you put me to bed?” And the actress wants to be physically there for her children for a while. The need for her to be “mom” was so strong.
During the same podcast, Emily shared some bits about her married life and how she and John love spending their morning together. The Edge of Tomorrow actress revealed that they don’t mind waking up extra early in the morning because the unbothered hours of the two of them allow them to talk and catch up about everything.
She also shared that they recently rescued a very adorable puppy, and although she didn’t want a dog during that time, her daughters were insistent, and they had John on their side, so they have a fur baby added to their family. Giving the public a sneak peek at what they love watching as a family, Emily, born Emily Olivia Laura Blunt, revealed their love for The Voice.
Emily, John, and their two daughters are based in Brooklyn, where they are also neighbors with Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana Barroso. Matt co-stars with Emily in their recent film, Oppenheimer. When asked what it was like to be neighbors with Damon, Emily described the Bourne Identity actor as easygoing and his wife as beautiful.
Emily will next be seen in the movie Pain Hustlers with Chris Evans, Andy Garcia, and Catherine O’Hara, which is scheduled to premiere on October 27. The Fall Guy is now in post-production, and Emily will be there with Ryan Gosling.
