Emma Watson Says She’s Happy With Her Decision To Step Away From the Spotlight
During Emma Watson’s British Vogue cover shoot, the actress revealed that she’s happy with her decision to step back from the spotlight.
Recall that the 33-year-old Harry Potter alum decided to put her career on hold after her last movie, Little Women, in 2019.
During her hiatus, she ventured into other creative endeavors, including directing a Prada fragrance commercial and completing her MA in Creative Writing.
During the interview, Emma shared, “Because I’m in a career that moves very quickly, the decision to take time to do these things felt like a very big decision.”
The actress believes in the astrological concept of the “Saturn return.” This is when the planet returns to the same position it was in when a person was born, a phenomena that only happens every 27 to 29 years. By taking a break from Hollywood, Emma believes that she was able to more readily welcome her first Saturn return and the realignment that comes with it.
Emma also revealed that there are times when she feels like the characters that she portrays feel “more real” than her own persona. Thanks to the break she took, she was able to enjoy more freedom.
She explained, “I’m just so glad that I did [step away from acting] because I have this feeling of having my own voice and creative space and sovereignty in some way that I don’t think I did before—more autonomy.”
Emma continued, “I’m so glad that I allowed things to be messy for a minute and to really allow myself to not know [what’s next], because the knowing that I’ve come to, I wouldn’t trade that for anything.”
The actress said that finally being able to focus on herself has given her a chance to look at Hollywood from a different perspective, a place where she is constantly surrounded by successful and beautiful people. Emma revealed that none of these really matter if she isn’t happy with what she’s doing when there are no cameras.
During her time away from the limelight, Emma teamed up with Alex, her brother. Together, they set up Renais, a gin business. Their product is primarily made from upcycling grapes from vineyards. Some of their grapes come from their father’s vineyard in France.
When Alex was interviewed, he said that siblings who are also business partners tend to push each other’s buttons more. During the interview with HELLO!, Alex revealed, “Ems and I are very close. We’re hugely supportive of each other, mostly I try to give her reasons to laugh. I think we were both looking for a new challenge and thought we’d make a great team, and here we are.”
“There’s a deep level of trust and understanding that goes on [building a brand with family]. With that comes a level of stability which is great on the flip side, we’re still brother and sister and are more than capable of pushing each other’s buttons. Working with a family member is great—although you have to fight for the space to keep your relationships outside of business which is the challenge,” he shared.
Emma is enjoying her singlehood after her relationship with Brandon Green ended earlier this year. Some of her past beaus include Francis Boulle, Rafael Cebrian, and Will Adamowicz.
Since playing the role of Hermoine Granger, Emma has become one of Hollywood’s most sought after and highest-paid actresses. Her last films include Beauty and the Beast and Little Women. Aside from her successful acting career, Emma has also established a name for herself due to her outspoken views about politics and feminism.
