Glen Powell Reveals Humble Reality TV Beginnings On “Endurance” – And How It Ended Quickly
Glen Powell had a short-lived but memorable stint on a reality TV show before he became a household name and Hollywood heartthrob.
The actor recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where the host unearthed a nugget of his early career that had remained largely hidden. In a fun twist, Stephen, 60, took the audience back to 2002, the year a 13-year-old Glen appeared on Endurance, a reality series for kids that resembled a junior version of Survivor.
Glen, now 35, was visibly taken aback as Stephen revisited his Endurance days. “It’s really pretty hard for me to talk about, to be honest. I’ve never talked about this publicly ever,” he admitted.
As Stephen shared clips from the episode, including a young Glen struggling with a monkey bars challenge, the actor couldn’t help but laugh at his past self. “I wanted to be on the show really bad, and I got kicked off in the first episode,” he admitted, a tinge of nostalgia in his voice.
“I thought I could do it for a long time, but my balance didn’t think so. When I realized I was going home, it was the worst feeling,” he shared further.
Stephen added an extra layer of amusement by reading Glen’s old bio from the show. The description was endearing, noting his aspirations of buying a professional video camera by mowing lawns and acting in commercials. The profile even highlighted his love for tap dancing and singing at nursing homes, showcasing his youthful enthusiasm and charm.
The bio read, “Glen likes making his own movies and is working to buy a professional video camera by mowing lawns and acting in commercials. He is a world traveler and is looking forward to going to a new destination and new meeting people on Endurance…He likes to tap dance and sing at nursing homes.”
Despite the setback on Endurance, Glen’s career took flight, with notable roles in films like Top Gun: Maverick and his latest project, Twisters. And it seems his adventurous spirit hasn’t waned.
Glen revealed to PEOPLE that, post-filming, he and his Twisters crew went storm chasing. “We went, we survived,” he said, hinting at a possible new passion for weather chasing.
