Gwen Stefani Says Some No Doubt’s Music Makes Her Want To Throw Up
In a revealing interview, superstar Gwen Stefani unveiled her sentiments towards certain songs from her band No Doubt, shedding light on the profound impact of memories associated with their music.
Speaking on Audacy’s Check In interview, the 54-year-old singer expressed her reluctance to revisit some of No Doubt’s songs due to the emotions they evoke. Reflecting on past experiences and regrets, she confessed, “I can’t listen to a lot of the songs because they speak so clearly to me. And it’s like, you know, you have regret and mistakes you’ve made. Most of the songs are about that.”
One song, in particular, triggers visceral reactions for Gwen. “If I do ‘Ex-Girlfriend,’ even when I say it, I almost throw up in my mouth. It’s just like, ‘Oh my God.’ It just brings you right back,” she revealed, emphasizing the intense emotional resonance tied to the band’s repertoire.
Delving into the dynamics of touring and performing, Gwen reminisced about the energy exchange between artists and audiences. Despite the challenges of repetition, she marvels at the privilege of self-expression and self-discovery afforded by her musical journey.
“There’s lots of times when you’d be on tour doing the repetitive songs, but it’s not the songs. You’re not in the songs. You’re there with these new people every night, and they’re receiving the songs,” she stated.
“That’s where you get the energy, and you kind of relive that moment with them. It’s very interesting. I can’t believe that I was chosen to be able to have this life, because it’s such an incredible way to express yourself but also get to know yourself,” she added.
No Doubt enthusiasts can anticipate the band’s long-awaited reunion at this year’s Coachella Festival in April, marking their first performance since 2015. Amidst headlining acts like Lana Del Rey and Tyler, the Creator, the Hollaback Girl hitmaker eagerly anticipates reconnecting with fans and fellow musicians on stage.
As preparations for the reunion unfold, Gwen humorously acknowledges the task of relearning older hits, exemplified by her admission on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“I don’t remember them, no, not at all. I don’t! I think I’m going to have to learn probably like, eight or nine [songs]. One of the first songs I ever wrote was called ‘Different People;’ we’re doing that,” she stated.
