Halle Berry And Ex-Husband Olivier Martinez Turn To Parenting Coach For Son Maceo
Halle Berry and her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, are taking steps to improve their co-parenting relationship for the sake of their nine-year-old son, Maceo. The former couple, who finalized their divorce last August after nearly eight years, have decided to attend co-parenting therapy sessions, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The actress, 57, and Olivier, 58, agreed to work with a parenting coach to resolve disputes and conflicts, aiming for successful co-parenting. Both will first have individual sessions with the coach, followed by at least six joint sessions. Halle’s partner, Van Hunt, 54, is also permitted to join these joint sessions.
After the initial six sessions, the coach will evaluate if further therapy is needed. This structured approach highlights their commitment to providing a stable and supportive environment for Maceo.
Halle and Olivier’s divorce, which was finalized in August, included a settlement where they share joint legal custody of Maceo. Halle agreed to pay Olivier $8,000 per month in child support, along with 4.3% of any income she receives above $2,000,000. Additionally, Halle will cover their son’s private school tuition, uniforms, school supplies, and extracurricular activities, reimbursing Olivier for any such expenses from the 2023/2024 school year.
The couple initially filed for divorce in October 2015 after two years of marriage. In a joint statement to PEOPLE at the time, they expressed their commitment to maintaining respect and focusing on what’s best for their son.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children’s privacy as we go through this difficult period,” the ex-couple said.
Halle also has a 16-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry. In a 2021 interview with Women’s Health, she spoke about how her relationship with Van positively influenced her role as a mother.
She shared, “I just feel fulfilled. I feel happy in my life romantically, as a mother, as an artist. I’m a much better mother in this circumstance than I would have been had I stayed in a romantic relationship that didn’t serve me and didn’t make me feel the way I need to feel as a woman.”
Halle emphasized the importance of self-care for effective parenting. “I’m reminded that we always have to take care of ourselves first, because I can’t be a good mother for my children if I’m not fundamentally happy and feeling good about myself,” she stated.
