“He’s Not Just A Crazy Guy, He’s An Artist,” Michael J. Fox Says As He Reflects On Friendship With Christopher Lloyd
This Saturday at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, veteran actor Michael J. Fox had time to speak about his longtime friendship with co-star Christopher Lloyd openly.
While speaking at an interview withVariety Studio, the 61-year-old actor passionately highlighted the time his friendship with Christopher Llyod, 84, started taking shape. He tells Variety, “Chris is a great guy. He’s very enigmatic…It took me a few films to get to know him. On Back to the Future Part III, we connected in a way we hadn’t on the other films. I came to see how much he loved acting. I never got that before.”
In Back to the Future Part III, Chris played the role of Doc Brown in the sci-fi movie, while Michael, although he was not the first choice for his character, played Marty McFly. The Back to the Future trilogy brought Michael lots of fame. However, it wasn’t his first time acting alongside Chris.
Both actors first appeared together in a 1985 hit sci-fi directed by Robert Zemeckis. The time-travel film has since earned the title of one of the greatest films ever made.
Still speaking about Chris, Michael said: “To sit down and talk about acting and talk about Shakespeare and ‘King Lear’…This guy can play King Lear! People don’t expect that of him. He’s full of surprises.”
“He can tell a movie’s worth of story in two seconds, and you get it. Us regular actors have to lay out hours and hours to get the information out. Chris is brilliant at it. His love of film and his love of being an actor…He’s not just a crazy guy, he’s an artist,” he added.
The veteran actor’s documentary Still premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and he earned a standing ovation from the audience. The documentary explores his professional acting career and the famous actor’s battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The documentary tells the story of Michael discovering he had Parkinson’s disease after waking up from a night of drinking to realize his pinky finger was twitching in 1990. A year later, he visited a neurologist and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Still is set to show on Apple TV+ soon. The legendary actor, who is married to 62-year-old actress Tracy Pollan, retired from acting in 2020. He focuses now on writing about his Parkinson’s struggle and funding Parkinson’s research through his Michael J. Fox foundation.
