Hoda Kotb Says She’d Probably Opt For A Small Wedding Next Time
Hoda Kotb is thinking about what her dream wedding might look like one day. On the December 11 episode of Today with Hoda and Jenna, the 59-year-old TV host opened up about her thoughts on tying the knot again while discussing the growing trend of micro-weddings with co-host Jenna Bush Hager.
“When that day comes, probably a small [wedding], yeah,” Hoda said when Jenna asked if she’d prefer a large or intimate celebration.
Micro-weddings, typically attended by just 10 to 30 guests, are becoming increasingly popular as couples aim to avoid the hefty costs of traditional ceremonies. “They’re growing in popularity because I think people don’t want to spend a ton of money on the party and then afterwards and then the bills,” Hoda explained.
However, Hoda acknowledged the challenge of keeping things small, especially when you have a large family. Reflecting on her own experiences, she shared that her first wedding to Burzis Kanga in 2005 was a destination wedding. “It wasn’t small but it wasn’t huge,” she recalled.
Hoda’s engagement to financier Joel Schiffman in November 2019 had initially sparked dreams of a beachside wedding, where he had proposed. But after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted their plans, they postponed the ceremony several times. Eventually, Hoda shifted her vision to a smaller event closer to New York City. Despite their efforts, the pair ended their relationship in January 2022 after eight years together, including three as an engaged couple.
Now, years later, Hoda remains optimistic about love. Earlier this year, she even gave dating another try after Jenna set her up on a brief three-date romance. While it didn’t work out, Hoda says she’s focusing on simplicity in her next partner and relationship.
