Hollywood Shows Halts As Los Angeles Wildfires Rage On
The devastating wildfires in Southern California have forced Hollywood to press pause on several major productions and events. Over 30,000 residents have been evacuated from areas like the Pacific Palisades as flames continue to spread, leaving destruction in their wake.
Popular ABC shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Doctor Odyssey, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! have halted production indefinitely. CBS has followed suit, shutting down filming for NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and After Midnight. The Price Is Right has also suspended its taping until further notice.
Uncertainty surrounds other shows, including Abbott Elementary, All American, and The Pitt.
The wildfire crisis has also disrupted the entertainment industry’s social calendar. The 2025 Critics Choice Awards, initially scheduled for January 12, have been postponed to January 26. The event will still be held at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar and broadcast live on E!
Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin expressed the community’s shared grief in a statement, saying, “This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected.”
Other high-profile events have also been affected. The SAG Awards canceled its live, in-person nominations announcement earlier this week, while premieres for films like Unstoppable and The Last Showgirl were postponed out of an abundance of caution.
The wildfires, which include the deadly Eaton Fire, have already claimed two lives, according to the L.A. County Fire Department. Five separate fires are currently burning in the Los Angeles area, with containment efforts ongoing.
Chief Anthony C. Marrone described the situation as “dire,” with firefighters working tirelessly to combat the flames. Meanwhile, schools and businesses in the region remain closed, and evacuation orders continue to expand.
