Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness Divorce After 27-Year Marriage
Being married and staying married takes a lot of work, especially in Hollywood. For Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, there’s still no guarantee of a happily ever after despite being wedded for 27 years.
The couple has announced that they are now in the process of ending their marriage. Based on the statement that People obtained last week, the couple released a joint statement saying, “We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority.”
The statement continued, “We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.” The couple signed their announcement with “Deb and Hugh Jackson,” adding that it was the only statement they would be making on the matter.
The Australian couple share two children, 23-year-old Oscar and 18-ear-old Ava. During their first four years of marriage, they adopted their son Oscar Maximilian in 2000. Five years later, they adopted daughter Ava Eliot.
The couple has a 13-year age difference, with the Australian blonde Deborra-Lee being older at 67 years old and Hugh aged 45.
The news of their divorce may understandably come as a shock to the public since they have been vocal about their affection for each other.
In a previous interview, the couple revealed that throughout their marriage, they have never been apart for more than two weeks since marrying in 1996.
Just last February, Hugh guested in Smooth Radio where he mentioned that intimacy, honesty, and making time for each other are the secrets to a long and happy marriage.
Last April marked the couple’s 27th wedding anniversary. Hugh posted a tribute to his wife to the delight of his 79.1 million social media followers. He wrote, “I love you, Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 years! I love you so much.”
In his post, he also mentioned how they created a beautiful family and life together. He praised his wife’s laughter, spirit, humor, generosity, cheekiness, loyalty, and courage.
By all means, Hugh is more popular than his wife, but Deborra-Lee already had more than 20 movies under her name before they met. Fans may also recall how they met as stars of ABC TV’s mini-series Correlli in 1995. In the 10-episode show, the two took on roles as a prison psychologist (Furness) and a brain-damaged convict (Jackman).
Deborra-Lee, on the other hand, recently starred with Eric Bana in Robert Cannolly’s Force of Nature sequel, The Dry 2. The film was released in New Zealand and Australia last August.
Now that they are divorcing, many are sad that the couple’s marriage is ending. Hugh has always been vocal about his love and appreciation for his wife. He even referred to her as his best friend and primary source of support in his personal life and career.
