I Didn’t Walk… For Three Weeks: Iggy Azalea Shares “Mundane Back Surgery” Experience
Rapper Iggy Azalea recently revealed she was left immobilized for three weeks after she had a back surgery procedure. The 32-year-old tweeted about the surgery on Monday, explaining how it was supposed to be a routine procedure. “Wanna hear a crazy story? I was supposed to travel to Australia and film a movie, but right before I left, I had what I thought would be a rather mundane surgery on my back to fix the issues I had after touring two summers in a row on an injury,” she began.
The Australian rapper and songwriter would later find that the procedure was more than ordinary as she developed complications upon completion and could not walk for weeks. Even now, as she recovers, she says she can’t do much save for little workouts.
Iggy further shared that she “ended up in bed hooked up to a million machines” and was subjected to “so much pain” that she has no memories of most of the days.
According to the Fancy star, the only place she could go to within the three weeks duration was the bathroom, and that always proved to be an “ordeal.” Last week, her medical doctors cleared her to move around again, and she is recovering steadily. In an attempt to get back strong, she sees a trainer for physical exercises daily. “My goal is to be in good health by Christmas, “ she declared.
Aside from the physical pain, the experience was mentally challenging for the mom of one. For one, she was rendered incapable of doing anything for herself. She also missed out on a movie she was supposed to act in. And when it came to when she would recover, she had no answers. That, she said, was the hardest part of her ordeal. However, her doctors are happy that her recovery is now swift, as she told a fan that she has gone from being able to stand for three minutes to being able to stand for half an hour.
Iggy was able to pick a lesson or two from her experience as she promised to take her fitness seriously once she is back to a perfect state of health. “I value my body in a new way after this experience,” she said.
The lessons learned are not only for the Black Widow rapper, as she also advised fans to look after their bodies more. “Stay healthy, everyone and pay attention to what your body is telling you,” she advised.
