Rihanna is making waves with some surprising news. The superstar and founder of Fenty, 36, recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight on June 11, sharing updates about her music career while addressing rumors of her retirement. Sporting a T-shirt that read “I’m Retired,” Rihanna explained the misunderstanding it caused.
“People got triggered with that retired word. They were like, ‘We’re never getting an album now.’ No one read the other line, which said, ‘This is as dressed up as I get,'” Rihanna told ET.
In another chat with EXTRA, Rihanna clarified her stance: “I’m not retired. I just liked that dress. I got it as a gift and I loved it…”
She emphasized that she is far from quitting music and is actually in a phase of rediscovery.
“I think that music, for me, is a new discovery. I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start — give me a second!” she stated.
“Yeah, I’m starting over,” Rihanna said about her long-awaited album, R9.
The Stay singer wants to revisit her old songs with fresh ears and a new perspective. “But I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have, so I actually want to go back and listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective and then see what applies and what I’m still in love with,” she added.
The Umbrella hitmaker, who shares son RZA, 2, and Riot, 10 months, with A$AP Rocky, also opened up about her personal life. She expressed her hopes for expanding her family, particularly the desire to have a baby girl.
“Everybody is pushing for that. Look, if I ever get a daughter, I’m gonna show her so much footage — she’s been talked about forever,” Rihanna told EXTRA, adding, “A spicy little girl would be so fun.”
Back in April, Rihanna gave more insights into R9 during another interview with EXTRA. “It’s gonna be amazing. It has to be — that is the only reason it’s not out yet. If I’m not feeling it and I’m not feeling like it represents the evolution, the time I spent away. There should be a show of growth, right?” she stated.
“I want to play, and I feel like music is a playground, and I want to have fun with it and show truly where I am at,” the singer added.
With all this excitement, fans can rest assured that Rihanna’s music journey is far from over, and there’s plenty to look forward to both in her career and personal life.
