In Plain Sight Drops, Shocking the Public About Allegations Against Russell Brand
News that Russell Brand received an email and a letter accusing him of rape and assault is circulating online. The singer responded last October via his YouTube channel where he denied all the allegations.
The hype surrounding the scandal was reignited when a streaming series called Dispatches hinted that a well-known celebrity would be the center of its investigation and would reveal shocking truths.
Brand’s worst fears were most likely confirmed when Channel 4 published its documentary last Saturday, September 16. The explosive 78-minute show advertised itself on the website with a close-up image of the celebrity along with the title, Russell Brand: In Plain Sight. Beneath the headline, the words “Dispatches investigates Russell Brand’s treatment of women” promised an unsavory report on the English comedian’s character.
Providing a stark contrast to Brand’s vehement denials, it showed interviews with the four women who accused him of sexual abuse and assault. They described their encounters with the flamboyant Brand as the documentary cut to his comedy stand-ups. He could be heard describing that same behavior as material for his show.
In one scene, Brand could be seen conversing with DJ Jimmy Savile. They were joking around about an assistant whom Brand would bring and do anything he told her to.
The revealing documentary showed Brand saying as he was performing, “Them blow jobs…I like them when it goes in her neck a little bit. I like it when the mascara runs a little bit.”
While it might have been funny because it sounded like an exaggeration, it had an altogether chilling effect in light of the fact that it was based on real life.
A girl named Alice was part of the horrifying documentary. According to her, she was 16 years old when Brand took her virginity. She described how she almost choked and couldn’t breathe when Brand forced himself inside her mouth. She cried after the experience and Brand told her, “I only want to see your mascara run anyway.”
Alice recounted how Brand climbed on top of her, forced her to open her mouth, and started drooling saliva into it, making her gag. “He held my mouth shut and made me swallow it, so I was just gagging and crying,” she said.
Unfortunately, this was only one of several sickening accounts. Over the years, the documentary showed a consistent pattern and several victims. Perhaps even more troubling is the fact that Brand’s behavior had become well-known in the industry, to the point that women would warn each other about him. Perhaps the more disturbing question is, why didn’t anyone speak up sooner?
If you’ll recall, the actor went on social media before the show aired where he was heard describing the accusations as “a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks as well as some pretty stupid stuff.”
After the shocking accounts that were aired, it will be interesting to see what he has to say now.
