Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals the Real Score Between Her and Will Smith
After Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been secretly separated for seven years now, many questioned the real score between the two and the trajectory of their relationship.
For most couples, separating means being physically away from each other and moving on with their lives. Still, it appears to be different for Jada and Will.
One month after her shocking revelation through Worthy, the 52-year-old actress’ memoir, Jada has now answered all the speculations on everyone’s mind. She and Oscar-winner Will Smith plan on upholding their lifelong commitment to one another.
Say what? Yes, during her appearance at The Drew Barrymore Show, the titular host asked the golden question and it appears that the ex-couple is planning to stay put and stay together.
“We’re staying together forever. I tried. We tried,” Jada said, referring to their attempts to lead separate lives.
Jada also revealed that she would not be leaving Will’s side and Will would not be leaving hers.
Meanwhile, her husband Will also spoke about their relationship with a different audience—attendees of an event at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. During the event, he described their relationship as “long and tumultuous.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Will has even thought of a new adjective to describe what’s going on between them. “We call it ‘brutiful.’ It was brutal and beautiful at the same time,” he commented.
Last month, Jada admitted that she decided to stay by Will’s side the moment he slapped Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards. While on The One Show, Jada said, “I knew it would be an intense reaction. And that was the moment that I decided that I was going to stay by his side. You know, it’s funny how intense situations can amplify love, and it was a pretty difficult time, but it definitely drew us closer. So yeah, it’s crazy how things work.”
She added, “I would say that Will and I have decided to be in a relationship that fits what we desire. So, we had our separation, and then the Oscars came, and we are definitely on a different trajectory. But I will not say that it’s in a traditional way. We decided to be together in a way that works for us.”
In her memoir, Jada explained how the controversial Oscars slapping incident revealed the dynamics of her marriage with Will. She also explained that after the incident, she became concerned about her husband. This led her to the realization that her place was by his side no matter what.
Even while they were living separately, Jada said that she knew that they would always have each other’s backs. She revealed, “Us pulling at each other to love each other so that we could feel a certain way about ourselves, separate and find our emotional independence, to meet each other in the middle.”
