Jameela Jamil Explains Why She Has A “No Sex Scene” Rule In Hollywood

Jameela Jamil has drawn a clear line when it comes to acting — no sex scenes, no intimate moments, and only comedy kisses. The Good Place star recently opened up about her stance while chatting with David Tennant on his podcast, David Tennant Does a Podcast With…, and her reasons are as unique as they are unexpected.
Jameela, 39, admitted she doesn’t understand why sex scenes exist in films at all. In her words: “I don’t really know why there are sex scenes in films at all. I miss the crashing wave or the cork coming off the champagne and I loved all of that. I don’t think we need to see so much of that. [It] just always feels a bit unnecessary and a bit intimate, a bit personal,”
She compared watching sex scenes to standing on a crowded subway, awkwardly watching a couple kiss. “It’s like, look away! And so I look away,” she said, adding that it makes her feel like she’s intruding on someone’s privacy.
Her strict “no sex scene” rule has cost her roles, including two projects she turned down because they required physical intimacy on screen. “I could pretend to do all, I pretended to fall down a sinkhole, I could do all kinds of things, but I won’t do that,” she stated.
Jameela made headlines last year when she revealed she even pulled out of an audition for You Season 4 because her character was too sexy. Speaking to Penn Badgley on the Podcrushed podcast, she admitted, “…I am so shy about anything sexy that I can’t.”
Surprisingly, Jameela once considered a career in porn but ultimately ruled it out for a hilariously relatable reason — lack of physical strength. “…I don’t have any upper body strength,” she joked. “It’s also just the strength of the thighs. I have no glutes.”
For now, she’s sticking to her boundaries in Hollywood, ensuring that any project she joins respects her comfort level. “All my contracts are no sex scenes, very little kissing, and I’ll only do comedy kissing,” she stated.
